Shakhtar started the season with a confident 4-1 victory over EMS-Podillia, and after the weekend they continued the training process, preparing for the game against Kryvbas. Kryvbas are one of the leaders of the championship, which finished the previous season on the second spot, that secured the team's place in the European competitions for the first time in history. During the pre-season, the line-up was renewed significantly: Kostiantyn Frolov replaced Volodymyr Yefimako as the head coach, experienced Olha Boichenko, Khrystyna Yeromenko and Dumitrita Prisacari left the team. 15-year-old Anastasiia Zhyhadlo became the only newcomer in the summer pre-season.
Pre-season training camp took place in Ukraine and Poland. Frolov's team played home friendly matches against the youth team of Kryvbas Academy (4-5), Molod U15 (3-3) and Volyn U15 (2-3), and they defeated first league team Sisters in the only friendly match against the girls – 3-0. The international friendly match against Polish Gornik ended in a draw – 1-1.
