Shakhtar hosted Oleksandriia in the UPL round 3 match
We want to note the first appearance of Dmytro Chyhrynskyi in the starting eleven of the Miners after his return to the club. He acted in pair with Mykola Matviienko at centre-back. Midfield was taken by Yehor Nazaryna, Oleh Ocheretko and Dmytro Kryskiv from the opening minutes, with Danylo Sikan playing as winger again.
Goals by Sikan and Traore after Gocholeishvili's assists
The beginning of the clash was completely bossed by the home team and the score was opened in the 8th minute: Giorgi Gocholeishvili entered the penalty area from the right and made a delivery to the far post, Danylo Sikan converted it while falling down – 1-0. Patrick van Leeuwen's men continued to play on top and threaten near the opponents’ goal: Zubkov's shot passed near the post, Sikan's and Zubkov's attempts were blocked by the defenders. The Oleksandriia side responded with the only opportunity in the first half: Kulakov won a header, but missed the far corner. And in the 31st minute, the Orange-and-Blacks doubled the advantage: there was another goal pass from the right wing by Gocholeishvili, but this time it was Lassina Traore who headed it below the crossbar, making it 2-0.
Tension until the last minutes
During the break, Shakhtar coaching staff made two substitutions: Bohdan Viunnyk and Kevin Kelsy appeared instead of the goalscorers in attack. At the start of the second half, the visitors levelled the game a little and began to move forward more actively. The teams exchanged chances during the opening minutes: Kryskiv's attempt into the near corner was hardly parried away by Shevchenko and Kalitvyntsev's shot from the edge of the box ended close to the crossbar. Oleksandriia managed to pull one goal back in the 60th minute: Shulianskyi carried out a cross to the penalty area and Skorko scored a header. Soon, Smyrnyi had a chance to equalize, but his attempt went past the left post. The Miners also did not miss the opportunity to answer the opponents: Viunnyk hit the near post from the left corner of the penalty box – the goalkeeper blocked it. The manager of the Orange-and-Blacks gradually deployed fresh forces, fielding Eduard Kozik, Newerton and Denil Castillo onto the field. The final minutes of the game were the most interesting. First, Dmytro Riznyk twice saved the Pitmen from a goal when he dealt with Babohlo's attempt, and then he showed a miracle of reaction, taking Smirnyi's shot from a few meters. Kelsy had to resolve the issue completely, however his close shot was denied by the visitors' goalkeeper this time.
2-1 – Shakhtar claimed a victory against Oleksandriia in a difficult match.
Patrick van Leeuwen’s lads will play the next Ukrainian Championship match on Sunday, August 20, away against Kryvbas. It kicks off at 19:00.
