Shakhtar played the away match against Kryvbas in the 4th round of the UPL

Head coach of the Miners Patrick van Leeuwen made some adjustments in the starting line-up of the team compared to the previous game. Captain Taras Stepanenko appeared on the field for the first time in this season, Artem Bondarenko and Oleksii Kashchuk returned, and Danylo Sikan had a central forward position.

Kashchuk’s goal, Kryskiv’s brace

The host team did not even get into the game when the Orange-and-Blacks scored a goal: in the 8th minute, a great play ended with Zubkov’s cross from the right wing to the far post, which was turned right home by Oleksii Kashchuk without any obstacles. 0-1, and this is a debut goal for the first team by the student of the Academy of the Miners. The visiting team continued to put pressure on the opponent’s goal, and while Sikan did not convert his chances (he headed the ball twice off target), in the 18th minute, Dmytro Kryskiv played one-two with Danylo at the entrance to the penalty area and shot accurately into the left corner – 0-2. After this, Stepanenko could have secured a crushing victory, but his volley hit the post. And Kryvbas took advantage of the moment and scored one goal in the 24th minute: Khomchenovskyi hit the right corner from the penalty area. After such a wild start, the teams took a break from attacks, but went forward again at the end of the first half. In the 42nd minute, the Red-and-Whites failed to advance from their own goal, Bondarenko intercepted a pass from goalkeeper Klishchuk and rolled the ball to Dmytro Kryskiv, who netted a brace – 1-3. But in just two minutes, the host team reduced the gap to a minimum again: Kozhushko turned Dibango’s cross right home to the far post.

Less goals, more emotions

The second half was not as productive, but extremely intense and nerve-racking. Already in the beginning, the opponents exchanged moments of Stetskov (hit the crossbar) and Zubkov (narrowly missed the far corner from the right corner of the penalty area). Patrick van Leeuwen released fresh Nazaryna and Kelsy, but the host team managed to score: in the 64th minute, Beskorovainyi successfully responded to a cross from the right wing and equalised the score. Kelsy could retake the lead immediately, but he headed the ball over the target after Sikan’s cross. In the 73rd minute, the Orange-and-Blacks got a numerical advantage – Kryvbas midfielder Khomchenovskyi was sent off for a dangerous play against Nazaryna. Shakhtar did not have time to capitalise on the power play, and in the 85th minute Bondarenko’s red card made the teams even. In the remaining time, the Miners tried to arrange a final attack, but the host team’s defence was flawless. And the visiting team finished the game with nine players: Chyhrynskyi received two yellow cards in the last minutes and also left the field. 3-3 – spectacular and lively draw between Shakhtar and Kryvbas.

Patrick van Leeuwen’s lads will play their next away match in the UPL against Kolos on Sunday, August 27. It will kick off at 15:00.
