On August 6, the charity match between Tottenham and Shakhtar was held in London in support of the people of Ukraine

This match was the final one in the long career of Shakhtar goalkeeper Andrii Piatov. The legendary goalkeeper played for the Miners in 16 seasons, during which he participated in 482 official matches and won 28 trophies with the club. This summer, Andrii Piatov announced the end of his performances, and today he led the team to the field with the captain’s armband for the last time.

Also, this match had a charitable purpose – the proceeds from the ticket sales and advertising will be transferred to Shakhtar Social foundation and will be used to help the people of Ukraine. By the way, this match was attended by 56,331 spectators.

Standing ovations for Piatov, exchange of goals by Kane and Kelsy

The match started, as expected, with Piatov’s beautiful saves. Already in the beginning, he pulled Harry Kane’s dangerous shot from the penalty area, and then saved Sarr’s header after a corner. In the 16th minute, the referee stopped the game, and both teams and fans at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium applauded Andrii Piatov, who officially retired as a goalkeeper. The teammates and the coaching staff congratulated the Legend, and the club’s CEO Serhiі Palkin and Sports Director Darijo Srna presented Andrii with a symbolic shirt with number 482.

Dmytro Riznyk, who came on the field, immediately joined the game, saving Sarr’s shot under the crossbar. And yet, the host team scored first: Eduard Kozik broke the rules in the penalty area, and Kane scored from a penalty spot into the right corner – Riznyk guessed the direction, but did not reach the ball. However, in the last minute of the first half, the Orange-and-Blacks were able equalize the score: Danylo Sikan made a quality cross from the left wing, and Kevin Kelsy headed the ball into the bottom corner – 1-1.

Lemkin’s unofficial debut, Kane’s poker

During the break, Patrick van Leeuwen made two substitutions: Stav Lemkin, newcomer of the Miners, came on for the first time wearing Shakhtar jersey, Oleksii Kashchuk also appeared on the field. But Tottenham started the second half extremely powerfully and scored two early goals: in the 50th minute, Harry Kane successfully headed the wing cross right home from a few meters, and five minutes after, the striker of London team went one-on-one and scored the third goal. In the middle of the half, Oleh Ocheretko and Pedrinho were released, and Denil Castillo, Newerton, Bohdan Viunnyk, Lassina Traore appeared a little later. Towards the end of the match, the pace decreased a bit and there were almost no sharp moments, but even in such situation, Harry Kane managed to find his moment and in the 79th minute, after pursuing rebounds, he netted the poker. Newerton had a chance to reduce the gap, but his shot under the crossbar was saved by the keeper of the host team. Scarlett set the final score in the added time. 1-5 – Shakhtar lost to Tottenham in the charity match.

The Miners will play their next match on August 14. Patrick van Leeuwen’s lads will play against Oleksandriia in the 3rd round of the UPL. The match will kick off at 17:00.
