Head coach of Shakhtar youth team, Oskar Ratulutra, summed up the training camp in Turkey, talked about the friendly matches and the team’s work, and shared the upcoming plans

– Shakhtar U19 complete the training camp in Turkey. Can you share your impressions?
– I have got only positive impressions, because we worked well in Turkey. We are satisfied with the attitude of the players towards the process throughout the training camp. We also managed to implement everything we planned – to play friendly matches with experienced opponents.

– Please tell us more about the team’s regime. What was emphasised?
– They trained twice a day. Usually, the morning training session was dedicated to individual development, and in the evening, the players focused on team work, team tactics, performing playing exercises.

– What was the main task during the training camp and did you manage to accomplish it?
– The main task was to prepare the team for the UEFA Youth League match against Hajduk and for the second part of the season. I think we succeeded. Although, of course, only the official matches will show our level exactly.

– Pohorilyi, Yushchenko, Siheev, Hlushchenko, Rosputko – all these players were involved in the friendly matches of Igor Jovicevic’s team…
– Our boys had a very good opportunity to practice and get the playing time in the first team. They were able to see Shakhtar’s high level, and most importantly, in which direction they need to move to reach it. In addition, it is very good for the psychological state of the players.

– During training, the team played 7 friendly matches (2 wins, 2 draws and 3 losses) with goal difference of 11–8. What is your take on this result?
– Let me remind that we played with workloads, while training twice a day. Of course, fatigue left an imprint on the results of the matches, therefore, sometimes the quality of play was affected. During the planning of the training camp, one of the main requirements was to play against experienced teams. We are very pleased that the organisers took this into account and most of the friendly matches were played against senior teams. We wanted the boys to have a serious opposition both in duels and in team play. Only under pressure they were able to understand the difference between adult football and youth football. Playing against such opponents should benefit the players themselves, because soon they will be transitioning to adult football, and these games may make their adaptation easier.

– Which of 7 matches of your team did you like the most?
– It is difficult to pick one, because every match was very informative. We constantly applied rotation, and all team members played. At first, we evenly distributed the time between all guys, then those who we plan to involve in the first match got more minutes.

– The training camp in Turkey ended on February 5. What are the upcoming plans?
– We arrived in Croatia for the UEFA Youth League match against Hajduk. Tomorrow we will hold a pre-game training session in Split, and on February 8, the first official match of the calendar year will take place.
