On February 8, Shakhtar will play their closing friendly at the winter training camp
The Miners are to face Bosnian champion Sarajevo in a test game.

Opponent
Sarajevo is a five-time champion and one of the most decorated clubs of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The capital team won the last gold awards in 2019 and 2020, but they finished the previous season only in the 4th spot and did not get to European competitions for the first time in several years. Sarajevo are not performing very successfully in the current Bosnian Premier League campaign either: the Maroons have only 25 points and 5th spot in the table after 18 matches; they are as much as 14 points adrift of the leaders and 8 points adrift of the Conference League zone. The negative goal difference is also noticeable: 22 goals scored and 25 goals conceded.
To make things better, the management invited 50-year-old mentor Mirza Varesanovic who took charge of Sarajevo this winter break. The graduate of the club played for Bordeaux, Olympiacos and Austria Vienna back then, but as a coach he worked within his country only. The team include mainly representatives of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Balkan countries, but there are also several international players among which is Brazilian Renan Oliveira, known to Ukrainian fans for his performances in Lviv and Kolos.
The most prolific players of the Giants in this season are attacking midfielders Ivan Ikic (5 goals) and Dal Varesanovic (4), as well as forward Hamza Catakovic (4). Sarajevo defeated Minaj Uzhhorod (2-1) in their only friendly so far.
