On January 27, Shakhtar played a test match against the vice-champion of Slovenia Koper

Head coach of the Miners Igor Jovicevic deployed two different line-ups again. From the first minutes, Anatolii Trubin played in the goal, flanks were given to Dmytro Topalov and Yukhym Konoplia, Valerii Bondar and Mykola Matviienko were in the centre of defence, Taras Stepanenko, Dmytro Kryskiv and Artem Bondarenko played in the centre of the field, Ivan Petriak and Oleksandr Zubkov had the roles of wingers, and Lassina Traore had a central forward position.

Active start and early goals

The Orange-and-Blacks immediately created two good opportunities: Kryskiv met Topalov’s cross, the keeper saved it, and then Zubkov dealt with the opponent on the right in the penalty area and shot to the far corner – next to the post. The Slovenes responded with a dangerous shot by Jasaragic. Trubin played brilliantly in this episode. But the very next attack of Koper was goal-scoring: Ochieng responded to a cross from the left and kicked the ball into the empty net at the far post. However, not even a minute had passed before Shakhtar players equalized the score: Bondarenko made a good pass to the left post, where Ivan Petriak jumped over the defender and headed the ball into the far top corner – 1-1. Shakhtar carried the play and spent the second part of the half near the opponent’s penalty area. Zubkov (keeper’s save), Kryskiv (off target) and Konoplia (over) tried to score in the goal of the Slovenes. Closer to the break, a quick attack was successful. Zubkov finished it with a right-footed shot – it was hindered by a deflection.

Experiments on the positions and a stunner by Nazaryna

Igor Jovicevic changed the line-up (except for Trubin) for the second half: Yaroslav Rakitskyi with young Eduard Kozik played at centre-back, Giorgi Gocholeishvili and Lucas Taylor came on the right wing. Already in the beginning, Danylo Sikan found an opportunity, but his attempt was saved by Golubovic. During the opening 10 minutes, the Slovenes acted purely defensively, and then counterattacked and earned a spot-kick (the ball hit Kozik’s arm). Osuji started to kick, but Anatolii Trubin saved both the Nigerian’s shot and a follow-up. But in the 64th minute, Koper managed to take the lead again: with a well-placed kick from the centre of the penalty area, Edomwonyi shot past Pyatov, who had previously appeared as a substitute. Bohdan Mykhailichenko could level the score, but his powerful shot from outside the penalty area went over the net. The Miners spent the rest of the time looking for goal-scoring opportunities, and they managed to score already in the added time. Totovytskyi earned a free kick in the left corner of the penalty area, and Yehor Nazaryna left no chance for the goalkeeper with an excellent shot under the crossbar. 2-2 – Shakhtar ends the test match vs Slovenian Koper in a draw.

Igor Jovicevic’s lads will play the next friendly match on January 31 at 16:30 (15:30 CET) against Bulgarian champion Ludogorets.
