On July 18, Shakhtar played the test match against Dutch Ajax
Manager of the Pitmen Patrick van Leeuwen carried out another rotation in the squad in the third friendly of the summer pre-season: goalkeeper Dmytro Riznyk made his first appearance in the starting eleven, defensive positions were taken by Giorgi Gocholeishvili (right) Valerii Bondar and Mykola Matviienko (centre), Dmytro Topalov (left), midfield was taken by heroes of Euro 21, Artem Bondarenko, Heorhii Sudakov and Dmytro Kryskiv, with Oleksandr Zubkov and Oleksii Kashchuk playing as wide forwards and Danylo Sikan acting as centre forward.
Hosts converted their advantage
In the opening minutes, the Amsterdam side looked more active, but gradually the Miners took the initiative and orchestrated several dangerous attacks. Bondarenko cut the hosts’ defence with a gorgeous pass and brought through on target Gocholeishvili, however Giorgi’s attempt was blocked by the defenders. Following this, Kryskiv organized a one-on-one situation for Zubkov with an equally cool pass from his own half of the field – the goalkeeper was for an instant ahead of him on the ball. The hosts restrained the pressure and made a quick attack, opening the score in the 19th minute: Rensch knocked-on in the penalty area and was brought down by Topalov – Kudus converted the penalty through a powerful shot almost into the centre of the net. In a few minutes, the Red-and-Whites could have doubled their lead, but Riznyk turned for a corner Bergwijn's attempt from the penalty area. The Dutch team continued to play on top, and if the goalkeeper's reaction and the post saved after Kudus' shot, then in the 32nd minute, no one prevented Bergwijn from hitting the back of the net from 12 meters. And in another two minutes, Kudus responded to a teammate's pass, burst through the right edge of the penalty area and beat the goalkeeper, scoring a double.
Head-to-head half
Patrick van Leeuwen made 5 substitutions during the break, fielding Denys Tvardovskyi between the sticks, Oleh Ocheretko in the field centre, Khusrav Toirov and Bohdan Viunnyk on attacking wings and Kevin Kelsy in the central striker position. The teams exchanged shots by Ocheretko from outside the penalty area (caught by the keeper) and Taylor (Tvardovskyi’s save) in the beginning of the second half. In the middle of the half, the Miners had a great opportunity to win back one goal: Viunnyk put pressure on the sweeper, won the ball and went one on one with the goalie, but Pasveer parried Bohdan's attempt with his foot. In general, the Orange-and-Blacks looked more confident and tried to play more fluidly in the opponents’ half of the field. Other substitutions added some freshness to the team as well: Yaroslav Rakitskyi and Viktor Korniienko entered the field, and then did Denil Castillo, Eduard Kozik and Lassina Traore. Immediately, Castillo almost brought Kelsey on the goalkeeper, but he was held back by the Amsterdam defender. The hosts responded with a sharp breakthrough down the right flank with Daramy’s shot above the crossbar. Brobbey could have scored, but Denys Tvardovskyi was the winner in the duel with Ajax striker. The opponents finished the game at a slow pace and did not create any more opportunities to change the score. 0-3 – Shakhtar lost to Ajax in the test game.
