Shakhtar U19 head coach Oleksii Bielik talked about his emotions from the appointment, goals and the team’s immediate plans
– Congratulations on your new position! With what emotions do you approach the season?
– Thank you very much! I am glad to head Shakhtar U19 because it is a great honour and responsibility. Talented boys with a great future are gathered here, so I am pleased to be involved in development of their careers. We've only just started working, and to be honest, emotions are running high. I think we will manage with the help of the experienced coaching staff that worked here last season.
– You were an assistant manager in this team, will it help with adaptation?
– Indeed, it is a great virtue that I had the opportunity to watch the boys from the side. I also saw the organization of the training process of my foregoer, who had everything well-honed. I am grateful to Oskar Ratulutra for the opportunity to work in his coaching staff.
– Are there any personnel changes?
– All coaches who worked with the team last season will continue their work, and we have Maksym Malyshev who has joined us. In the past, he played a lot of matches in the first team, I told the guys that it was the injury that prevented him from continuing his career, and if it wasn’t for that, he would still be playing for Shakhtar. But even despite this, Maksym managed to achieve a lot in football and now he will have the opportunity to fully fulfil his potential as an assistant, and then, perhaps, as a head coach.
– What are your goals?
– I had a conversation with the management, but I think we will discuss it later in detail. I can say that we will develop the boys both individually and as a team. There are all talented young people here who are literally a step or several away from the first team, if we talk about loan to another team, although everything here is individual. As for the tournament tasks, we haven't talked about it yet, but without further ado we understand that there is only one spot for Shakhtar – the top one. In the coming days, we will focus on the importance of the first spot because we cannot always advance to the European competitions due to the successes of the first team.
– Tell us more about your immediate plans.
– We started our preparations for the season according to the usual schedule: medical examination, testing and aerobic work. Now we are working on the field in Rotterdam, there will also be four or five friendly matches where we will try to use the full squad to the maximum. We have everything to prepare well for performances in the domestic championship and the UEFA Youth League.
