Shakhtar defender Valerii Bondar shared his impressions after the first friendly match against AZ Alkmaar (3-3)
– Shakhtar played the first test match at the training camp. What were you able and not able to implement in this game?
– It is very difficult to assess now, because weather conditions were difficult today: it was probably the hottest day since the training camp began. I think the coaches will watch this match, but of course we need to improve in the game structure and mutual understanding. There is still a lot of time ahead, so we have to work to reach the level we want to be at.
– Are you personally satisfied with your actions on the field?
– There is always something to work on and improve. I am often dissatisfied with myself, and today was also a day when I could have played better. We will watch the match, analyse it and move forward.
– How long do you think it will take to reach optimal physical condition?
– I can say for myself: physically, I felt good today, but I still have certain problems that do not allow me to play to the best of my ability. I will be ready for the season.
– You scored the team’s second goal. What can you say about it?
– When you go for the set pieces, you have to be aggressive and you should want to score. I wanted to score today and it turned out that I succeeded.
– How is it working under the guidance of the new coaching staff? Can the game that Patrick van Leeuwen wants to see be observed on the field?
– We need to watch the match, and then the coaches will tell us what should be improved in certain actions. I think that the things that they want and expect from us are really taking shape little by little.
– You have known Patrick van Leeuwen since the Academy days. Does it make the process of adaptation to his requirements easier?
– Of course, it makes it easier because we already know him and I know some members of the coaching staff. I think that gradually we will all get used to it and will move towards our main goals – the title and advancing out of the Champions League group.
