Shakhtar played against Rukh in the UPL match on March 19

The 18th round of the UPL was declared the Round of Remembrance in honor of the representatives of the football fan community who died at war. Before the start of the match in Lviv, the families of the fallen soldiers of the Azov regiment Vyacheslav Matviienko and Roman Kuzin, who in their peaceful lives were the members of fan movement of FC Shakhtar, came on the field. The families were given symbolic t-shirts of the Miners with the call signs of the soldiers, the memory of all dead was honored with a minute of silence, and the daughters of the heroes – Yaroslav Kuzin and Yelyzaveta Matviienko – made the first kick.

Head coach of the Orange-and-Blacks Igor Jovicevic made certain adjustments to the team's starting line-up: young newcomers of Shakhtar, Giorgi Gocholeishvili and Kevin Kelsy, played from the first minutes, Yaroslav Rakitskyi played at centre-back with Valerii Bondar, and Neven Djurasek appeared in the middle of the field.

Full control and excellent goals

From the starting whistle, Shakhtar confidently carried the play and gradually increased the pressure on the opponent's goal. Already in the beginning, Kelsy could have scored, but the goalkeeper saved his shot. Sudakov made a good long-range attempt (the ball passed a little above the left top corner), and Rakitskyi hit the wall from the penalty area. They managed to open the scoring in the 27 minute: Mykola Matviienko joined attack as a left-back and after throwing from Kryskiv's he hit the far corner with a diagonal shot – 1-0. Not allowing the opponents to recover, Shakhtar doubled their lead in just 5 minutes: Sudakov shot from the same left wing, and Dmytro Kryskiv rolled the ball from the centre of the penalty area under the crossbar – 2-0. At the end of the half, the teams exchanged moments with Kelsy and Sliubyk – both headed dangerously after crosses, but the Miners missed the corner, and Lviv team player's shot was saved by Trubin.

The opponents were not given a chance

During the break, the coaching staff of the Orange-and-Blacks made two substitutions: Yukhym Konoplia and Lassina Traore appeared on the field. The Burkinian immediately began to create intensity: in one episode, his breakaway was interrupted by a recorded offside, and in another episode, Pankiv was a little ahead of the forward on the ball. Another player who came off the bench had a chance – Oleh Ocheretko joined at the right inside position, but he just did not have time to turn Konoplia's cross right home. The players of Rukh did not manage to overcome the coordinated defence of the host team, so they relied on set pieces and long-range shots: Runich's shot flew into Trubin's hands, and Kholod's header after a corner missed the target. In the final minutes, Shakhtar completely calmed down the game and brought the match to a natural result.

2-0 – Shakhtar defeated Rukh and continue to lead in the UPL.

Now club football is waiting for a two-week international break, and the next match the Miners will play on April 2 in Odesa against Chornomorets.
