Shakhtar met with Metalist 1925 in the Premier League MD16 game

Head coach of the Miners Igor Jovicevic made two changes to the starting eleven in comparison with the previous game against Minaj (4-1): Bohdan Mykhailichenko appeared at left-back, with Lassina Traore acting in the central forward position.

Lopsided first half

The Orange-and Blacks decided not to postpone the events once again and secured a comfortable lead in the opening of the encounter. In the 5th minute, Oleksandr Zubkov finished off a move involving Djurasek and Stepanenko to make it 0-1. Shortly after this, Bohdan Mykhailichenko burst into the penalty area through the left flank, played one-two with Traore and struck into the near corner, making it 0-2. Konoplia and Bondrareko played in the similar style, but on the right side, however Artem's attempt was parried by the goalkeeper. The nominal hosts managed to create their first chance only in the middle of the half when Shershen decided to perform a long-ranger, but missed the goal of the Miners. This was followed by threatening counter-attacks, and if Zubkov's attempt from a free kick went wide, then in the 38th minute, Bondarenko impressively nutmegged the defender of the Kharkiv-based team and Lassina Traore hit the back of the net just behind Sydorenko – 0-3. In the 41st minute, Yaroslav Rakitskyi diagonally found Oleksandr Zubkov on the right edge of the penalty area, the midfielder handled the ball and shot past the goalkeeper with a second touch, securing a brace and making it 0-4.

Stunner by Rakitskyi and record-braking score

Nazaryna and Petriak took the field after the break and Igor Jovicevic’s men started the second half of the game in the same powerful manner. In the 56th minute, Metalist 1925 players did score, however in own goals: Kurylo unsuccessfully passed back and Sydorenko missed the ball under his foot – 0-5. Kharkiv side goalkeeper managed to block Djurasek’s attempt in the next scoring episode, although Ivan Petriak was the first at follow-up – 0-6. The coaching staff continued to add fresh force to the team by fielding Sikan, Kryskiv, and a little later, Ocheretko. However, the seventh goal was not scored by young players, but by the legend of the Miners, Yaroslav Rakitskyi: passing with the ball from the central circle to the penalty area, he slotted the ball below the crossbar – 0-7. Only after that, the visitors slowed down a bit and allowed the opponents to create at least something: after a corner, Bezuhlyi performed a header going near the post, and Bychek's attempt from under the crossbar was pulled by Trubin. Petriak was close to a brace in the last minutes, but his shot from the right corner of the penalty box went just above the target.

7-0 – Shakhtar beat Metalist 1925 with the biggest goal difference in this season and now share the top spot with Dnipro-1 on the same number of points in the UPL table.

European competitions are waiting for Igor Jovicevic’s team again in the near future. The Miners are to play the UEFA Europa League Round of 16 first match against Feyenoord Rotterdam in Warsaw on March 9. The meeting at the Stadion Miejski Legii Warszawa im. Marszałka J. Piłsudskiego kicks off at 22:00 Kyiv time.
