Shakhtar played against Inhulets in the match of the 26th round of the UPL

Compared to the previous game, head coach of the Miners Igor Jovicevic completely changed the attack triangle: Dmytro Kryskiv returned to the starting line-up after the injury, taking the left winger position, Oleksandr Zubkov played on the right, and Kevin Kelsy had a central forward position.
A symbolic first kick was performed by defender of Mariupol and Azovstal, Captain of the First Rank Stanislav Kerod
A symbolic first kick was performed by defender of Mariupol and Azovstal, Captain of the First Rank Stanislav Kerod. He is a fan of Shakhtar and attended the team’s matches at Donbass Arena. From 2004 to 2022, he served in Mariupol, in the Donetsk border detachment and the Sea Guard detachment. Stanislav Kerod was released from captivity in December 2022.

Unsuccessful attempts to realize the advantage

The match started with the pressure of the Orange-and-Blacks, who were close to quickly opening the scoring: the goalkeeper blocked Konoplia’s sharp cross with his foot, the ball flew off to Stepanenko, but the captain shot over the crossbar almost from the penalty area line. Then, there was a chance for Kryskiv, who narrowly missed the right corner when finishing off. After the debut activity, the teams got stuck in duels, and in the middle of the half they exchanged dangerous moments: Kelsy unsuccessfully put his foot under Sudakov’s long-range shot and prevented the ball from hitting the target, and in response, Holovkin decided to shoot into the centre – Trubin pulled the ball out from under the crossbar. Shakhtar failed to convert promising penalties (Matviienko shot into the goalkeeper’s hands, and Sudakov hit his teammate in the wall), several more attempts by the visiting team were blocked. So, there were no goals before the break.

Konoplia’s deciding goal and logical result

The beginning of the second half was marked by the series of goal-scoring opportunities. Trubin reacted to Sital’s shot at the near post, Kryskiv made a bouncing shot over the crossbar from a few meters near the opposite goal, and Bondar shot powerfully from outside the penalty area – Palamarchuk saved it not without problems. And yet, in the 51st minute, Shakhtar managed to take the lead: Matviienko took a corner from the left wing, and Yukhym Konoplia successfully played at the near post, heading the ball into the net – 0-1. Almost immediately, the goalscorer was injured and replaced by Gocholeishvili, Sikan also came on the field. In a few minutes, Matviienko could have become the author of another assist, but Kryskiv shot off target through his cross from advantageous position. Igor Jovicevic continued to introduce fresh players into the game, releasing Shved, Mykhailichenko and Totovytskyi one by one. And in the 78th minute, the host team remained in the minority: Sikan ran towards the goal on the right wing and was brought down outside the penalty area by Palamarchuk – a straight red card for the goalkeeper of Inhulets. The final score was set in the 85th minute, when Totovytskyi shot from the left edge of the penalty area, and defender Pavlov deflected the ball into his own net with his knee.

2-0 – Shakhtar won the victory over Inhulets and continue to lead in the Ukrainian League.

The Miners will play their next match on May 19 against Veres. The game will be held in Rivne and will kick off at 17:00.
