Shakhtar defeated Veres in the Ukrainian Youth League match, securing the fourth victory in a row
Barchenko played in the starting eleven instead of Kravets. Kozik appeared at centre-back in pair with Oharkov.
Minimal advantage
The teams exchanged chances at the beginning of the match: the Rivne team player Kovaliuk tried to beat Barchenko with a low shot – the goalkeeper reacted, and Shakhtar responded with a beautiful goal by Toirov who opened the score with a bent shot, netting one in the second game in a row. Then the Miners could have increased their advantage after Pushkarov’s solo run down the right flank, however the winger missed after lobbing beyond the shot-stopper. The territorial advantage of Shakhtar expended until the haft-time, but the visitors mostly played on the counter and created chances from set pieces. Kovaliuk had the best opportunity to score – Barchenko performed confidently on the goal line.
Smashing defeat
Veres had an excellent opportunity in the opening minutes of the second half when Hodia sent a free kick ball into the roof of the net – Barchenko turned it for a corner. The Miners were active on the right flank, wherefrom three scoring attacks were orchestrated. But at first, Chuiko’s delivery to Pushkarov wasn’t successful: although Oleh won a header, he shot high. Demchenko was more precise, scoring in the second match in a row through a powerful shot after being fed by Tryfanenko in the 65th minute. Then Smetana scored his debut goal. Chuiko made a cross, Demchenko missed, Denys was accurate. Before the final whistle, Chuiko provided another assist, however defender Protasevych sliced the ball into the goal of Veres this time. The visitors had the chance to score a consolation goal after Funduk’s and Protasevych’s attempts, but Barchenko kept clean sheets.
The Miners are to play Zorya away in round 28 on May 23.
