Shakhtar met with Dnipro-1 on the UPL MD29 in Lviv

Igor Jovicevic fielded the same squad that kicked off the winning match against Zorya a few days earlier for the main match of the season. Anatolii Тrubin appeared between the sticks, Yukhym Konoplia (right) and Mykola Matviienko (left) played as fullbacks, Yaroslav Rakitskyi and Valerii Bondar were at centre-back. Midfield was taken by Taras Stepanenko, with Artem Bondarenko and Heorhii Sudakov operating as insides, Oleksandr Zubkov and Dmytro Kryskiv playing as wingers and Danylo Sikan performing as centre-forward.
The first kick in the match was made by Heroes of Ukraine Maksym Ushenko, who defended the Donetsk region for the past 4 years, and Maksym Binkovskyi, who was wounded between Izium and Kupiansk

Milestone, winning and golden goal by Bondarenko

The Miners demonstrated their attitude towards the decisive game from the starting whistle, and if Kryskiv's effort in the opening minutes went high, then the second dangerous attack resulted in a goal. In the 9th minute, Zubkov challenged for the ball after a throw-in on the right flank, Stepanenko’s attempt was blocked, however Artem Bondarenko played on the rebound and performed a left-footed shot inro the near post from outside the penalty area, making it 1-0. It became the 2,000th goal in the Ukrainian championships! Bondarenko could have scored a double in just a few minutes, but his header missed the far corner following a corner kick. Injury and substitution of Konoplia was an unpleasant episode. Bohdan Mykhailichenko took the field instead of him in the middle of the half. The Dnipro-base outfit tried to balance the situation, however they managed to create their first chance only in the 30th minute of the game. Dovbyk shot making a scoop turn – Rakitskyi turned up in the way of the ball. The Orange-and-Blacks had several more opportunities to double the score before the break: Zubkov hit the rival defender’s head at first, and then shot just centimetres above the goal, with Sikan sending the ball near the post during the next attack.

Win like champions

Shakhtar players’ efforts were fully rewarded at the beginning of the second half of the match. In the 55th minute, Zubkov passed to Danylo Sikan on the right edge of the penalty area who beat the goalkeeper and rolled the ball into the unguarded net – 2-0. Total thrashing was secured already in the 59th minute: Taras Stepanenko received a pass from Bondarenko and performed a great long-ranger hitting the left bottom corner of the goal – 3-0. To the credit of the Dnipro side, they did not give up and tried to find a chance for a goal. Pilhalonok’s shot from outside the penalty area was parried by Trubin and Dovbyk finished from an offside position. The forward of the visitors himself had two quite good opportunities after flank crosses, but Dovbyk’s first attempt was stopped by Rakitskyi and his header was blocked by Trubin. Igor Jovicevic refreshed the team with substitutes by fielding Dmytro Topalov and Kevin Kelsy, with Marian Shved and Yehor Nazaryna taking the field in the final minutes. Dovbyk’s threatening attempt during the final segment went wide. Nazaryna responded with a powerful free kicks, hitting the crossbar. Nobody managed to change the score before the final whistle, but in the compensated time, midfielder of the visitors Peglow couldn't stand the tension and provoked a big fight between the players of both teams. As a result, Peglow and Fedoriv from the Dnipro outfit, as well as Pitmen Nazaryna and Trubin, were sent off.

3-0 – Shakhtar claimed a convincing win against Dnipro-1 and became 14-time champions of Ukraine!

Igor Jovicevic’s men have one more match of the current season to play – the Orange-and-Blacks will face Vorskla Poltava away in the final UPL round. The game is scheduled for Sunday, June 4. It kicks off at 15:00.
