Shakhtar played against Oleksandriia in the away match of the 25th round of the UPL
Compared to the previous game, head coach of the Miners Igor Jovicevic made only one change in the starting line-up, releasing Neven Djurasek in the centre of the field. Trubin played in the goal as usual, Konoplia, Bondar, Rakitskyi and Matviienko formed the defensive line again, Stepanenko, Bondarenko, Sudakov and Shved appeared in the midfield (except for the Croat), Traore played at the helm.
Minimal lead of the opponents
The Orange-and-Blacks started more actively and created several opportunities in the opening stages: Shved’s shot was saved by the goalkeeper, and Traore failed to head the wing cross right home. However, in the 9th minute, the host team managed to open the scoring – Mykhailenko decided to perform a long-range shot, and the ball flew off the post into the net. Konoplia could immediately respond, but Shevchenko also saved his shot. Miroshnychenko from Oleksandriia also tried his strength with a long-range shot – over the crossbar. In the middle of the half, Lassina Traore was injured in a collision with an opponent and Kevin Kelsy came on as his substitute. Matviienko (his shot from the goalmouth corner was saved by the keeper) and Sudakov (he shot over the goal from the centre of the penalty area) had opportunities to equalize the score. Shortly before the break, Oleksandriia almost scored a second goal, but Trubin saved Babohlo’s attempt.
Kelsy’s goal and chances to win
As soon as the second half started, Igor Jovicevic’s lads rushed to attack with greater strength. Stepanenko almost turned Rakitskyi’s corner cross right home at the far post – a little higher. Kelsy had an even better chance, but the goalkeeper saved his shot from the box line hit the goalkeeper. In the 56th minute, the referee ignored Kelsy's fall after a clear contact with an opponent in the penalty area and did not award an evident spot-kick. Shakhtar continued to press, but for a long time the saturated defence of the host team worked flawlessly. Sudakov had a good moment when he shot while falling after Kryskiv’s pass – the ball flew into the hands of Shevchenko. In the end, we managed to equalize the score in the 75th minute: Zubkov made a long pass to Kryskiv, who broke into the penalty area from the left and hit the post, and Kevin Kelsy finished off successfully – 1-1. The Orange-and-Blacks managed to repeat a similar combination in a few minutes, when the goalkeeper blocked Kryskiv’s shot, and this time the defenders prevented Kelsy’s follow-up. In the final stretch, during one of the episodes, Zubkov scored with a shot into the top corner, but the referee mistakenly recorded Konoplia's offside and disallowed a good goal. The Venezuelan forward missed another opportunity when he shot over the goal after Sudakov’s pass from the left. The final attack of the visiting team was dangerous, but unsuccessful. 1-1 – Shakhtar tied with Oleksandriia.
The Miners will play their next match on May 13 against Inhulets. It will kick off at 17:00.
