FC Shakhtar Sports Director Darijo Srna commented on the events of previous UPL round and focused on referee work

– Darijo, the Ukrainian league round 25 was marked by a number of refereeing scandals. What is your opinion on this matter?
– I really didn't like refereeing in Oleksandriia and I didn't like it even more in Odesa. Shakhtar has always been for justice, for fair football. If they make a mistake in our favour, we admit it.

Today, I don't like how biased Dnipro-1’s matches are umpired. Experts and journalists note this as well. Therefore, I ask persons responsible for refereeing in Ukraine to pay attention to this, draw conclusions and punish the referees making gross mistakes. In my opinion, we need to develop young referees, ambitious and hungry ones, because refereeing is not at the corresponding level.

We understand financial problems and difficulties faced by the competition organizers. That is why Shakhtar is considering the possibility to purchase the VAR for the UPL, so that VAR works in every match without exception next season. It will be much easier with additional VAR: it will allow elimination of errors and exclusion of outside interference in the work of referees. It is important for all clubs to be on equal terms.

We want justice and fight for fairness. Anyone opposing such an approach does not deserve to be among the Ukrainian football elite and participate in the Ukrainian championship. Rules have to be equal for everyone. Things we currently see in refereeing reminds me of outrage of the early 2000s. If Shakhtar wins this championship, I promise you, the victory will be honest. In case of a loss, it should be a fair fight. We do not recognize deception and will fight against it.

I want to emphasize that the current championship is very interesting, there is a fierce struggle at the top and bottom of the table. Unfortunately, one thing is missing – quality, unbiased refereeing and fair play.
