On November 20, Shakhtar played a friendly vs Rukh on the field of the FC Rukh training centre in Vynnyky
The starting eleven of the Orange-and-Blacks included a pair of experienced central defenders Dmytro Chyhrynskyi and Yaroslav Rakitskyi, and in the absence of the internationals, manager Marino Pusic gave playing time to young players, in particular Anton Drozd, Denil Castillo and Eguinaldo.
The Orange-and-Blacks created the first chance during the opening minutes when Shved moved from the left wing to the centre and shot – the ball hit the post. But the attack of the Pitmen continued and led to a successful corner kick: Newerton crossed from the right-hand side flag to the near corner of the goal area, Rakitskyi extended the ball, with Kevin Kelsy heading it into the net – 0-1. The hosts came back quite quickly in a similar manner: in the 14th minute, Bohdan Sliubyk scored after delivery to the penalty box and being fed by Runich. The teams acted toe-to-toe, but without particular danger near the goal. Talles could have brought Rukh ahead, but he shot over the crossbar from the centre of the penalty area. Near the end of the half, the Miners organized a good opportunity in a positional attack: Rakitskyi fed the ball into the penalty area, but Topalov could not deal with it. And a minute before the break, the Lviv side took advantage of the visitors' mistake during the build-up, when they gave the ball to Kholod who scored into an empty net.
After the break, Shakhtar's coaching staff made several substitutions and fielded Ivan Petriak, Oleksii Kashchuk, Eduard Kozik and 17-year-old Viktor Tsukanov. In the second half, the Miners had more ball possession and tried to play more fluidly in the opponents’ half of the field, actively using fast flanks, but it was not possible to pass the tight defence of the hosts. But the hosts found their chance again after aggressive pressing and a mistake by the Orange-and-Blacks during transition from defence – Stoliarchuk scored this time. The Pitmen could score in return immediately after conceding a goal: Shved beat the defender and chipped the ball over the goalkeeper – it fell on top of the net, Castillo’s shot from the edge of the box lacked strength and the ball ended in the goalkeeper's hands, attempts from Kashchuk, Tsukanov and Eguinaldo were blocked by Ledvii. 1:3 – Shakhtar lost to Rukh in the test match.
Marino Pusic’s men are going to entertain Polissia at the Arena Lviv in the UPL round 15 on November 24 at 19:00. The Champions League clash with Antwerp will take place in Hamburg on November 28. It kicks off at 19:45.
