The legendary manager retired from coaching in Ukraine

Mircea Lucescu devoted 15 years of his brilliant career to work in Ukrainian football. Here he achieved the greatest success: he won 25 trophies, becoming the most awarded coach in the history of independent Ukraine, was recognised as the Coach of the Year 9 times. It is impossible to overestimate the huge contribution of Mircea Lucescu to the development of football in our country. His style of play has always been considered one of the most outstanding in European football, and his coaching ideas and philosophy have been a guideline for many of his colleagues. The Romanian head coach formed a lot of talented players, some of whom became Ukrainian and world football stars.

Mircea Lucescu played a significant role in the modern history of Shakhtar Donetsk, becoming the embodiment of the club’s most successful era. During 12 seasons, he claimed many incredible victories with the team and won 22 trophies, including 8 Ukrainian League titles and the 2009 UEFA Cup. Shakhtar reached a new level under his guidance, gaining recognition from entire European football.

The fact that after the outbreak of the war in Donbas in 2014 and the full-scale Russian invasion in February 2022, Mircea Lucescu did not leave Ukraine, but continued to work, do his best to help Ukrainian football and support Ukrainians deserves respect.

Mircea Lucescu forever inscribed his name in the history of Ukrainian football with these achievements and leaves Ukraine as a legend.

Thank you for everything, Mister!
