The youth team of the Miners start their journey in the new European season
On September 19, Shakhtar U19 will face Porto U19 in the match of the 1st round of the UEFA Youth League group stage. The game will take place in Norderstedt, Germany, at Edmund-Plambeck-Stadion and will kick off at 14:00 Kyiv time.
The registered users of the official website of the Miners shakhtar.com and FC Shakhtar application will be able to watch the match live. The updated application is available for download on App Store and Google Play.
Shakhtar U19, which are the regular participants of the UEFA Youth League, now under the guidance of new head coach Oleksii Bielik, will try to repeat last year's success, when the Miners successfully passed the group stage (10 points and 2nd place in the quartet with Real, Leipzig and Celtic) and reached the play-offs of the prestigious tournament.
Porto U19, who won the 2019 Youth League, have not come close to that achievement since. The best result in the last 3 seasons is Round of 16, where the Portuguese stopped in last year's campaign, having lost to Liverpool. The current Dragao team look convincing: at the start of the season, Porto U19 claimed 5 victories in 5 matches of the Portugal U19 League with a total score of 16-2.
As a reminder Shakhtar U19 and Porto U19 have already met in the group stage of the UEFA Youth League in the 2014/15 season which was historic for Shakhtar. Then both matches between the opponents ended with the same 1-1 score, the teams advanced to the play-offs, where the Portuguese stopped at the quarter-final stage and the Miners reached the final of the tournament.
