Shakhtar women’s team are preparing for the game against Metalist 1925
On Thursday, April 11, Shakhtar women’s team traditionally had a training session at the Academy base in Shchaslyve.
The session started with a 10-minute warm-up in a game format aimed at development of the speed of decision-making. Then, the outfield players practised a passing complex, and the goalkeepers trained separately. Later, the girls switched to wing movements with the final shot. The training session ended with a small-sided game in the 5 on 5 format with two neutral players.
Oksana Henyk, defender:
– Last week we worked on strength qualities in the gym and on the field, and this week we are focusing on high-speed work, tactical and technical actions. I can say that the team prepared strongly for the game against Metalist 1925, so we are approaching the meeting in a good and fighting mood.
– Share your expectations for the game against Metalist 1925. What do you know about the opponent?
– Metalist 1925 are a well-prepared team with experienced players who demonstrate a high level of football. I think it will be an intense match, and we are in great physical shape. It is time for the team to gain points, because we did not manage to do that in the previous rounds. I am sure that the game will be interesting, the fans will like it.
– What did the team lack in the previous rounds?
– After watching and analysing the previous matches, I can say that we actually played pretty well, but our mistakes were the result of conceded goals and losses. We have a young squad, the lack of experience is a key factor in some moments, but we are gradually making progress.
– Despite the fact that Shakhtar are one of the youngest teams in the competitive group, they manage to compete with more experienced opponents. Do matches against the strongest teams help you progress?
– Of course, it is a great experience. You have to do your best in every match, everyone is competing for the top places. There is a lot of competition in the group, and this experience is very important.
– You joined Shakhtar in September 2022, and immediately established yourself in the starting line-up, becoming a key player in the defensive line. Tell us about adaptation and your own motivation.
– I moved to Shakhtar from the First League, and it was difficult for me to adapt at the beginning, because the level of the Vyshcha League is different. I want to thank the coaching staff and the girls who constantly supported me and helped me adapt faster. I can say that I feel more confident in my actions this season, maybe I have reached a new level. I am very grateful to the head coach for his trust, and I want to continue to progress, to be useful for the team.
