Shakhtar U19 faced Vorskla Poltava U19 in the away match of the 24th round of the Youth League

Head coach of Shakhtar U19 Oleksii Bielik made two changes in the starting line-up compared to the previous game: Kniaziev and Bashmarin appeared instead of injured Udod and Drozd.

The start of the game was delayed for half an hour due to the announced air raid alert in the Poltava region.

Goals after counterattacks

The Miners immediately started to attack and claimed a spot-kick in the 2nd minute, when the ball hit Tishchenko’s arm after Yushchenko’s cross from the deflection in the penalty area, but the referee did not award a spot-kick. Instead, Vorskla converted their first opportunity: Selin found Ostrovskyi with a cross from deep, the latter moved the ball forward and shot past Bahlai. Shakhtar U19 met the opponent in the middle block and attacked positionally, trying to destabilise the defence of the host team, and took advantage of free space. Thus, Toirov got a series of goal-scoring opportunities after direct passes from the wing, but Khusrav lacked accuracy. Despite the lead, Vorskla U19 did not close in their own penalty area and counterattacked, doubling the advantage in the 28th minute: Bulhatov, after tackling near the penalty area, dribbled the ball into the central zone and passed it to Halas, who hit the crossbar with a long-range curved shot, and Odentsov pursued rebounds. The coaching staff reacted with a substitution, and Anton Demchenko replaced Khusrav Toirov on the field. In the 38th minute, Izotov pursued rebounds, after cutting Tsukanov, and made a one-touch pass to Ostrovskyi for the run, the latter beat the defenders and went one on one with the goalkeeper. Kniaziev could have reduced the gap, but the ball went over the post after the header.

Attempts to fight back and unconverted opportunities

Shakhtar U19 started the second half without substitutions. The game began with an effective counterattack by Vorskla U19: After taking advantage of Tsukanov’s mistake, Bulhatov regained the ball, went to a shooting position and hit the bottom left corner. Three minutes later, Yashchenko knocked down Kniaziev off the line, for which the referee awarded a spot-kick, which Yushchenko converted with an accurate shot into the corner of the goal – 1-4. The Miners had a territorial advantage and attacked, and attempts to fight back turned into dangerous moments. In the 62nd minute, Viktor Tsukanov decided to shoot – near the post. In the next episode, after the corner kick, Denys Smetana headed twice – the goalkeeper saved the shots. Pushkarov did not take advantage of a great opportunity after Yushchenko’s direct pass in the goalmouth, shooting over the target. At the end of the half, the opponents had a goal shootout. In the 80th minute, Poltava team managed to develop a quick attack in three touches after the goalkeeper cleared the ball: Izotov passed for the move to Shevchenko, who shot over Bahlai. Next, Stanislav Prus scored twice after the combination actions of the host team. An accurate shot by Denys Smetana capped the scoring in the match.
