Shakhtar played against Metalist 1925 in the third round of the second stage of the Women’s League

After a two-week international break, the head coach of Shakhtar women’s team Roman Zaiev chose the following starting line-up for the game against Metalist 1925: Ustinova played in the goal, Lutsan and Krevska acted in the centre of defence, Mokhnach and Mostova were on the wings, Zaborovets, Maslovska and Starukhina played in the middle of the field, Vykaliuk and Yanieva appeared on the attacking wings, Molodiuk played at the helm.

A half in a positional battle

The starting stretch passed with a dangerous opportunity of Kharkiv team. Already in the 3rd minute, after Aleksanyan’s pass from the wing, Kornatska failed to direct the ball into the net. Then the opponents did not force events and spent most of the time fighting in the central part of the field. In the 20th minute, Maslovska knocked down Kornatska, for which the referee awarded the set piece: Apanashchenko hit the wall with a direct shot, the ball deflected off to Kochnieva’s feet, the latter played in a second way attack – over the crossbar. After 5 minutes, the host team opened the scoring: Yeromenko kicked the ball from the left corner to the goalmouth, where Khimych was the first on the ball after clearing, and she kicked the ball over the goalkeeper with an accurate shot from behind the defender. Metalist 1925 were more proactive and pressed in the part of the field of the Miners. Towards the end of the half, the Orange-and-Blacks took the ball under their control and launched several attacks, but the opponent’s defenders managed to take the threat away from their goal.

Defensive play

The second half started at a leisurely pace. The Miners were in the possession of the ball more, but there was danger near Ustinova’s goal. In the 53rd minute, Kharkiv team launched a quick attack from their own part of the field through the left wing: Kochnieva pushed the ball to Kornatska, who led Kozhukhar to meet the goalkeeper with a one-touch splitting pass. The coaching staff of Shakhtar women’s team reacted with a double substitution, and Kravchuk and Zavidova replaced Yanieva and Vykaliuk on the pitch. In the 72nd minute, Pantsulaia took on three players and passed to the free space to Kozhukhar, who hit the goalkeeper with a powerful shot. Later, the teammates put Khimych into a shooting position twice, but she lacked accuracy. Metalist 1925 continued to attack, and they scored for the third time in the 83rd minute: Basanska made the corner cross to the near post, and Kochnieva was the first to pursue the rebounds after a struggle and hit the top corner directly. The final minutes passed without goal-scoring opportunities, so the head referee recorded the victory of Metalist 1925 – 3-0.

Roman Zaiev’s team will hold the next round of the second stage of the Vyshcha League in 4 days. On Thursday, April 18, the Miners will face Ladomyr Volodymyr in the away match.
