Shakhtar played the away match against Vorskla in the 24th round of the UPL

Compared to the previous match, the starting line-up of the Miners included Dmytro Kryskiv (in the centre of the field) and Danylo Sikan (in the forward position) again.

Sikan’s goal was the only and deciding one

The Orange-and-Blacks could have scored already in the first minutes, when Sikan tried to turn Bondarenko’s cross right home at the far post, but he missed the target. Then, the teams exchanged not too sharp attacks, until in the 21st minute Marino Pusic’s team managed to conduct a quick attack and open the scoring: Sudakov made a tackle in the middle of the field, Kevin rushed with the ball through the left wing, entered the penalty area and passed to the right to Zubkov, Oleksandr’s shot was saved by the goalkeeper, but Danylo Sikan was the first to pursue rebounds – 0-1. In the middle of the half, the host team had a chance, but Stepaniuk released the ball far away, and Riznyk instantly blocked it. And shortly before the break, Shakhtar created two good moments: first, Zubkov, after Kevin’s pass, waved his leg past the ball a few metres away from the goal, and then the Brazilian winger, together with Sudakov, put Sikan into a good position, but he took too long to shoot and was blocked by a defender.

We kept the victory with ten players

The second half started at a calm pace, but in the 58th minute, Shakhtar unexpectedly remained in the minority: Kevin shot, Sikan made a one-touch shot – Isenko saved Poltava team, and Zubkov, trying to finish off, caught the goalkeeper’s head with his foot, for which he received a straight red card from referee Oleksandr Omelchenko. After getting a numerical advantage, Vorskla rushed to fight back, but the Miners acted accurately and reliably in defence and did not allow the opponent to create anything near their penalty area. Instead, the Orange-and-Blacks themselves could have increased the score when Sudakov led Bondarenko to the goal with a cool pass, but Artem was pushed away from the ball by Pavliuk at the last moment. The coaching staff of Shakhtar gradually revived the team with substitutions, first releasing Marlon Gomes, a little later – Nazaryna and Traore, and towards the end of the game – Stepanenko. The final minutes were nerve-racking, and even the goalkeeper of Poltava team came to the penalty area of the visiting team for the last corner kick, but Riznyk confidently played off the line and cleared the ball.

1-0 – Shakhtar defeated Vorskla and continued their winning streak in the Ukrainian League.

Marino Pusic’s team will play their next match on Thursday, April 18. The Miners will face Zorya in the postponed match of the 10th round of the UPL. The meeting will take place at Livyi Bereh stadium in the Kyiv region, and it will kick off at 15:30.
