Shakhtar met with Zorya in the postponed UPL MD 10 game

Head coach of the Orange-and-Blacks Marino Pusic made only one change to starting eleven compared to the previous match: Marian Shved appeared on the right attacking wing instead of disqualified Zubkov.

Sikan scores first again

The Miners had a territorial advantage from the opening minutes, although the first chance in the game was created by the Lugansk side: Guerrero carried out a dangerous attempt into the near corner, but Riznyk parried it. The Donetsk team responded with Konoplia's shot after a free-kick (high) and Shved's powerful attempt (the ball bounced from Basic past the post). The opener was scored in the 30th minute: Azarov beat three opponents on the left flank and made a delivery to the far post, which Danylo Sikan finished through a header, making it 0-1. Before the end of the first half, the teams once again exchanged dangerous opportunities: Guerrero failed to hit the target after a wing cross and Konoplia shot after Shved's pass went just centimetres from the post.

A half with numerical advantage and win with goals from Bondarenko and Newertton

The opponents also started the second half with dangerous attacks. First, Riznyk intercepted Guerrero's attempt and did not allow Horbach to score. Kevin and Shved had a great chance near the opposing goal, but the Brazilian's shot and Marian's finishing from the centre of the penalty area hit Zorya defenders. Next, Kyriukhantsev almost curled the ball into the far corner from outside the penalty area. In the 57th minute, the Luhansk side remained with ten men, when Jordan received a second yellow card for a foul on Sudakov and was sent off. The Miners held the ball and played fluidly in the opposing half of the field, but did not manage to create something dangerous. In the 73rd minute, the home team took advantage of a quick counter-attack and equalized the score: Guerrero brought Kyriukhantsev one-on-one who hit the right corner. Marino Pusic instantly reacted by fielding Traore as the second striker. The game itself became as open as possible, with the goalkeeper saving Zorya after Sudakov's attempt below the crossbar and with Antiukh’s bent shot almost hitting the far corner. The Orange-and-Blacks continued to go forward through significant efforts, but were stopped by the tight defence of the Lugansk team: Zorya defenders selflessly blocked Shved’s, Bondarenko’s and Sikan’s attempts, Sudakov sent the ball high. The coaching staff of the Pitmen deployed three Brazilians – Marlon Gomez, Newertton and Eguinaldo. In the end, in the 86th minute, the guests managed to score the decisive goal: a wonderful one-touch combination with the participation of almost half of the team ended with Artem Bondarenko's precise shot from the edge of the box into the lower left corner – 1-2. Newertton secured the final score in stoppage time. The Brazilian burst into the penalty area down the left flank, played one-two with Traore and confidently beat the keeper.

3-1 – Shakhtar defeated Zorya and continue to lead in the Ukrainian Premier League.

The teams will lock horns again on Monday, April 22. The Miners will entertain Zorya in the UPL MD 25 game in Lviv. The game at the Arena Lviv kicks off at 18:00.
