The club and the charity project will help the Ukrainian defenders and their families to maintain fitness and moral spirit

FC Shakhtar and the project of integrated support of Mariupol defenders Heart of Azovstal signed a memorandum of cooperation. Together, the parties will implement joint sports projects to maintain fitness and spirit of defenders of Maria's City.

There are following main areas of cooperation planned for this year:

- creation of sports clubs, the participants of which can be all veterans, but first of all the defenders of Mariupol and members of their families;

- involvement of defenders of Mariupol, members of their families and other military personnel in the adaptive football team Shakhtar Stalevi.

Yurii Svyrydov, FC Shakhtar Director of Strategy and Communications:

– We understand how to work, hold sports competitions, train. But we still have to understand how to work specifically with veterans, taking into account the peculiarities of their experience. And I believe that cooperation with Heart of Azovstal will really bring results. We have already launched a team for amputee soldiers – Shakhtar Stalevi. And this is a full-fledged part of the club, the guys understand it. They communicate with the players of our other teams, support each other at matches. It is important that they feel part of a big club.

Nataliia Yemchenko, Hearts of Azovstal Supervisory Board Member:

– The signing of the memorandum with FC Shakhtar is a fundamental step in this direction. Hearts of Azovstal has extensive expertise on the military of the Mariupol garrison, their relationship with sports and the body. We understand the demand. And FC Shakhtar knows how to create teams from people, how to create communities around them. We want to combine these two expertises and create a community around sports together with the military. We are sure that it should be about not only soldiers, but also about their families. And we want to develop practices that will work not only for the Mariupol garrison, but will be suitable for scaling throughout the country.
