Shakhtar youth team defeated their Polissia U19 counterparts in the first home match of the season

The coaching staff of Shakhtar U19 made one change in the starting line-up compared to the previous match: debutant Harabazhii replaced Kostiuk in the centre of defence.

Playing as leaders with lots of opportunities

The Miners took a high pace from the start and combined near the penalty area, trying to destabilise the defence of the Zhytomyr team. In the 5th minute, Tsukanov, who shot near the post after tricking the opponent, threatened the goal of Ulihanets after Yushchenko’s wing cross. In the next episode, the Pitmen could have claimed a spot-kick after Mezentsev’s contact with Lomaha, but in the end, Oleksandr received a booking. The Miners continued to attack, and Bundash was close to scoring by shooting powerfully into the crossbar from 20 metres. Polissia U19 created the first opportunity in the 17th minute, when Bilokon broke through the wing and shot into the goalmouth, but Shakhtar took the threat away in time. In response, the Orange-and-Blacks launched the attack in the centre, which was finished with Dabo’s shot from the semi-circle – the ball flew over the crossbar. Immediately after that, the match was interrupted for 21 minutes due to announced air raid alert in Kyiv Oblast. After the game was resumed, the Miners continued to have the initiative and created several goal-scoring opportunities after penalty kicks: first, Dabo aimed at the far corner with a direct shot, but the goalkeeper saved it, and then Yushchenko hit the crossbar, shooting over the wall.

Goals by Tiutiunov and Tsukanov secured a victory

The second half started with a goal-scoring opportunity of the Pitmen: Harabazhii won in the air and tried to finish Yushchenko’s accurate cross from the penalty area with a header, but he kicked the ball right into the hands of Ulihanets. Then the Miners, having a territorial advantage, pressed the opponents to their gate and carried out a long attack with a series of shots, which ended with the goal: first, the goalkeeper reacted to Tsukanov’s shot from 11 metres, then Yushchenko’s kick was blocked, and Tiutiunov made an effective shot after Drozd pursued rebounds and made a cross. Three minutes later, Tsukanov could have doubled the advantage, but he hit the post after a pass from the wing. The Zhytomyr team responded with a dangerous shot by Cherchukan from outside the penalty area. Then the coaching staff made a series of substitutions, fielding Smetana first, and Tryfanenko, Davydenko, Demchenko and Zubrii a little later. The Pitmen found another chance while attacking actively, when Smetana hit the crossbar with a set-piece shot. The final minutes passed under control of Shakhtar U19, and Tryfanenko was brought down after another attack in the penalty area, for which the referee awarded the spot-kick, which Tsukanov converted with a shot into the right corner, setting the final score.
