On Thursday, August 15, Unit.City in Kyiv hosted the First Ukrainian Adaptive Football Conference organized by FC Shakhtar
The development of adaptive football for amputees is one of the priority directions of FC Shakhtar. The number of amputees is increasing among soldiers and civilians in the conditions of hostilities on the territory of Ukraine. Shakhtar’s support initiative was implemented through the creation of Shakhtar Stalevi and the organization of the First Ukrainian Adaptive Football Conference. The event brought together specialists and enthusiasts who are developing new approaches and solutions to advance amputee football and provide essential support to those in need.
The main goal of adaptive football is to facilitate a return to an active lifestyle and provide support to people who need it
Olena Balbek, Adviser to the UAF President on Social Projects and Communications:
– The conference is primarily a structuring of knowledge and experience. Clubs from other cities were presented at the event, which provided an opportunity to get acquainted with a structured presentation of their experience. In addition, the experience of speakers from abroad is important for the adaptation of best practices in Ukraine. Ways need to be found to connect potential players with clubs, as there are people who are unaware of their interest in amputee football and clubs who may not know about the possibility of creating teams. It is important to communicate this opportunity to both parties, as the potential is significant. It is also necessary to create conditions for amputee football at the level of both regular play and competitions. The main goal of adaptive football is to facilitate a return to an active lifestyle and provide support to people who need it.
The participants of the event had the opportunity to hear the speeches of representatives and managers in the field of amputee football: manager of English Everton Mark Dolan, Technical Director Mark Otero and captain of French Marseille Jerome Raffetto, head coach of the Poland amputee football national team Dmytro Kameko, as well as Co-CEO of the Scort Foundation Julia Lambrecht. In addition to sports specialists, rehabilitation therapists and players of the amputee football teams were invited to participate in the conference.

We can say that playing football has a positive effect on the psychological state of each individual player
Bohdan Bilko, Shakhtar Stalevi head coach:
– The holding of the first adaptive football conference in Ukraine was an important initiative that I hope, will contribute to the creation of the amputee football league. The conference, first and foremost, provided many answers to the questions of people who were not familiar with adaptive football and served as a significant impetus for the popularization of amputee football in the country. It is important to note that sports allows players to distract themselves and integrate into the rhythm of life. The main motivation is that the players feel daily progress and are already showing interesting attacking football. We can say that playing football has a positive effect on the psychological state of each individual player.
Amputee football is an important rehabilitation tool for amputees, helping them return to an active lifestyle. In addition, this sport promotes psychological recovery, reducing the stress and depression that often occurs after limb loss.

Since the formation of Shakhtar Stalevi, the team’s players have shown significant progress. I hope that other teams will join and form their own teams, leading to the creation of an amputee football league in the future
Valentyn Romaniuk, Shakhtar Stalevi midfielder:
– In my opinion, such initiatives are very important, because soldiers with amputated limbs need to be socialized so that they get used to civilian life. Playing sports is of great importance in this direction. I’m sure that the conference will show Ukrainian clubs the possibilities of development in amputee football. FC Shakhtar calls on the Ukrainian football community and sports organizations to form teams for amputees because there are many among them who, risking their own health, protect Ukraine from an insidious enemy and need support like no other.
