Shakhtar faced Oleksandriia away in the 4th round of the UPL

Head coach of the Orange-and-Blacks Marino Pusic chose the following starting line-up for this match: Riznyk played in the goal, Matviienko and Bondar appeared in the centre of defence, Konoplia and Azarov acted on the wings, Kryskiv, Bondarenko and Sudakov played in the middle of the field, Kevin and Pedrinho acted as wingers, and Sikan had a central forward position.

We scored first, but the opponent evened the score

Both teams started the game actively, but the Pitmen, who managed to open the scoring, looked sharper in the beginning. In the 16th minute, after Azarov’s shot from the left wing, defender of the host team Shabanov deflected the ball into his own net – 0-1. Sikan could have immediately exploited a success, but he shot close to the post from the centre of the penalty area. The Miners managed to double the advantage in the 25th minute: Konoplia launched an attack on the right wing, Bondarenko led Dmytro Kryskiv to a shooting position, and the latter shot under the crossbar with deflection off the opponent – 0-2. But Oleksandriia had no intention to give up without a fight and made a comeback even before the break. In the 37th minute, Filippov intercepted Azarov’s pass to Riznyk and hit the empty net, and in the 42nd minute, Kaliuzhnyi hit the top corner with a powerful shot, equalising the score on the board.

Shootout with seven goals in favour of the host team

The second half started with a spot-kick into the goal of Shakhtar: the ball hit Bondar’s arm after the wing cross, and Filippov converted the spot-kick with a shot into the left corner. And in the 57th minute, after a rapid counterattack of Oleksandriia, Filippov went one on one and beat Riznyk, scoring a hat-trick. Marino Pusic reacted to the opponent’s goals with four substitutions at once: Franjic, Newertton, Eguinaldo and Traore appeared on the field. Meanwhile, the host team created another moment: Kravchenko made a long-range shot into the crossbar, Shabanov pursued rebounds, but Riznyk saved his shot. The Orange-and-Blacks spent the rest of the time looking for the ways to approach the opponent’s goal, but Oleksandriia went into defence with almost the whole team and successfully resisted the attacks of the visiting team. Newertton had a chance to score, but he kicked the ball over the crossbar from advantageous position, and Traore was prevented from shooting after the wing cross. Only in the last added minute, Pedrinho managed to make an excellent shot from the right edge of the penalty area into the far top corner, which set the final score. 3-4 – Shakhtar lost to Oleksandriia in the intense game.

Marino Pusic’s team will play their next league match away on September 1 against Kryvbas. The game will kick off at 18:00.
