Shakhtar U19 hosted Bayern U19 in the final UEFA Youth League league phase round in Gelsenkirchen
Shakhtar U19 coaching staff picked the following line-up for the game against Bayern U19: Bahlai took place between the sticks, Oharkov, Bashmarin, Harabazhii and Drozd played as defenders, Bundash, Tsukanov and Smetana appeared in midfield, with Strilchuk and Tiutiunov acting as wingers and Lomaha getting the centre-forward role.
Careful play with an unfortunate goal at the end of the half
The opening minutes unfolded at a leisurely pace, with the Bavarians holding a slight advantage as they controlled the ball and attempted to reach Bahlai's goal, however, the organized defence of the Orange-and-Blacks blocked the routes to the final third and orchestrated their own attacks. Closer to the middle of the half, the Miners found their chances in counterattacks: first Strilchuk sent the ball straight into the goalkeeper's hands from a free kick, and later Smetana made an attempt into the near corner, but it went wide of the post. Bayern U19, continuing to control the ball in the Pitmen's half, tried to activate their flanks and gradually increased the pressure. Thus, the first truly dangerous chance was created by Becker, who put Kusi-Asare into shooting position through a splitting pass, but Bahlai caught the ball without any problems. In the 38th minute, the visitors finally managed to take the lead: Scott took advantage of Bundash' turnover, was first on the ball and beat the goalkeeper. The Pitmen immediately stepped up and spent the final minutes of the first half in the opponents’ territory, but they couldn’t create a truly dangerous opportunity.
Attempts to come back
After the break, the coaching staff of the Orange-and-Blacks made a triple substitution: Sheleketa, Davydenko and Petruk appeared instead of Strilchuk, Bundash and Lomaha. The second half began with a threatening chance from the Miners: Tsukanov, after playing a one-two with Petruk in the penalty area, sent the ball into the goalkeeper's hands with a powerful shot. In the next episode, Drozd threatened Klanac's goal, producing a long-range shot after moving to the centre, but it went wide of the goal. The hosts were active with the ball and, avoiding Bayern's high pressure, created their own chances. In the 63rd minute, after a gorgeous pass from Tsukanov, Petruk found himself in a striking position, but Dettoni blocked his attempt at the last moment. The Munich-based side responded with quick attacks after interceptions, and in the 75th minute, Unsold did not take advantage of a great opportunity to double the lead. Towards the end of the match, the game shifted to counterattacks. The teams began to exchange dangerous chances, but Bayern U19’s actions proved more successful. In the 80th minute, the visitors extended their lead: Jensen dribbled the ball to the semi-circle and made a precise pass to Unsold, who sent the ball into the net, sealing the Bavarians' success.
