Shakhtar played against Rukh in the UPL round 15 match
Head coach of the Orange-and-Blacks Marino Pusic made several changes in the starting line-up compared to the previous match of the team: Marlon Gomes acted in the centre of the field from the first minutes, and Pedrinho appeared on the right attacking wing.
The symbolic kick was taken by the former preschool teacher, and now the defender of Ukraine, anti-aircraft gunner Nataliia Hrabarchuk. On November 17, she performed her first combat launch using the Igla MANPADS and immediately hit an enemy cruise missile, protecting the Ukrainian sky. Her courage and heroism became a symbol of the Ukrainians’ unwavering will to win.
Before the start of the match, the teams and spectators honoured the memory of AFU soldier Dmytro Tvardovskyi, who died at the front while defending Ukraine. He is the father of Shakhtar goalkeeper Denys Tvardovskyi.
Tight game with Matviienko’s goal after a set piece
The beginning of the match was cautious and did not have many moments: the Miners possessed the ball more and tried to combine, the Lviv team played defensively and met the opponents with high pressing. The shots by Sudakov and Kevin were blocked, and Riznyk easily managed the attempts by Pastukh and Pidhurskyi. And yet, the nominal host team managed to open the scoring in the 23rd minute: Pedrinho made a cross from the right corner to the near post, which Mykola Matviienko turned right home with a header – 1-0. The second part of the half passed in constant duels, which clearly affected the rhythm and intensity of the game. The visiting team approached the penalty area of the Pitmen several times, however, Bondar acted confidently again and again, managing Klymchuk’s attempt and blocking Liakh’s cross. Bondarenko had a chance to double the advantage, but his shot almost from the penalty line narrowly missed the left post.
Chances for both teams, but an unfavourable outcome for the Miners
The second half began much more actively, and the opponents exchanged moments already in the opening stages. First, Bondarenko passed to Sudakov for a shot, but his kick to the near corner was saved by Rukh goalkeeper Ledvii. In response, Pastukh tried to complete the teammate’s wing cross with a header, but he missed the target. In the middle of the half, Fedor sent the ball over the crossbar from an advantageous position in the centre of the penalty area, and Kevin shot on the volley after Sikan’s cross – off target as well. In the 70th minute, Marino Pusic made a triple substitution, fielding Kryskiv, Eguinaldo and Traore. Shortly after, fresh performers played a good combination, when Lassina led Kryskiv to a shot, but the latter sent the ball a little higher. And in the 87th minute, Traore scored with a long-range shot, but the referees disallowed the goal due to offside. And the Lviv team saved their strength for the final attack, and if Riznyk saved the Miners with two saves after dangerous shots by Klymchuk and Fedor, he did not help in the second added minute – Sych made a cross from the right wing, and Didyk hit the near corner with a one-touch shot and equalised the score. 1-1 – Shakhtar end the first stage of the UPL with a draw with Rukh.
The Miners will play their next Ukrainian League match against Vorskla on Thursday, December 5. The game will take place at the Arena Lviv and will kick off at 18:00.
