Shakhtar U19 hosted Rukh U19 in the Youth League round 15 in Shchaslyve
Head coach of Shakhtar youth team Oleksii Bielik made several changes in the starting line-up compared to the game against PSV U19 in the UEFA Youth League: Bahlai took place between the sticks, Oharkov and Kostiuk appeared in the centre of defence, Kaliuzhnyi and Drozd played on the defensive wings, Bashmarin, Tiutiunov and Bundash formed the midfield line, Tsukanov and Yushchenko acted as wingers, with Lomaha taking the central striking position.
Spectacular comeback towards the end of the half
From the first minutes, the Miners got the ball and tried to reach Kharechko’s goal, while Rukh focused on defensive play and quick counterattacks. The first dangerous moments were created by Yushchenko, when he first moved from the wing to the central semi-circle and aimed at the far corner (off target), and later shot from a tight angle (next to the post). The Pitmen gradually increased the pace, and in the next episode Lomaha threatened the opponent’s goal after Tsukanov broke into the penalty area and passed for the final shot, but Zalypka covered for the goalkeeper in time, clearing the ball off the goal line. The pressure of the Orange-and-Blacks increased, the visiting team had to foul to thwart dangerous attacks. Thus, in the 26th minute, Drozd made a firm set-piece shot, but it went just above the crossbar. Later, Rukh moved the game away from their goal and launched a quick attack: Mikliash threw the ball to Dorosh, who took advantage of the goalkeeper’s mistake and hit the goal. The Miners quickly increased the pace and changed the course of the game before the break: first, Tiutiunov completed the combination played by Tsukanov and Drozd with a well-placed kick, and then Lomaha made a close-range shot on goal – 2-1.
Ball control and quick counterattacks
In the second half the Miners continued to have the initiative, controlling the ball in the opponent’s part of the field. Tsukanov had a great opportunity to score at the beginning of the half, but he hit the goalkeeper from a tight angle. The coaching staff of Shakhtar U19 refreshed the attacking line with a double substitution – Demchenko and Smetana came on instead of Lomaha and Tiutiunov. In the 62nd minute, Rukh U19 arranged a dangerous attack that Cherkes completed going one on one, but Bahlai saved the team. Rukh U19 gradually seized the initiative, trying to reduce the gap, but the reliable game of the defenders of the Miners did not allow the opponents to create more than a few sharp crosses to the penalty area. In the added time, Shakhtar U19 quickly switched from defence to attack and widened their lead – Zubrii turned Kniaziev’s accurate cross right home, setting the final score of the match.
3-1 – Shakhtar U19 defeated Rukh Lviv U19 in the home match and stretched their lead over the closest pursuers to 5 points.
The Miners will play their next game of the Youth League on Thursday, December 5, against Vorskla Poltava U19. The meeting in Shchaslyve will kick off at 13:00, and the live stream of the match will be available on Shakhtar’s official YouTube channel.
