FC Shakhtar president Rinat Akhmetov reflects on the past year and shares his expectations for the coming 2025 in his message to fans
Dear fans! Dear friends!
The passing year 2024 has been another year of trials and of Ukraine's fight for freedom, independence and life. We withstood and once again showed the whole world our strength and courage. We definitely have something to be proud of!
For Shakhtar, 2024 was a year of both joy and sadness. We had reasons to be proud – we secured a golden double, winning the league gold medals and becoming the holders of the Ukrainian Cup. These achievements are especially important now: won against all odds, they reflect the perseverance and strength of the great Shakhtar family, made possible by the persistent and selfless efforts of the players, coaching staff, management, and all employees. These trophies were won thanks to your support. It is you, our fans, who inspire the team to new achievements. Therefore, I share your reasons for sadness – we finished the year in an unusual position in the league, every loss of points was reflected in our hearts. But we will not give up and in 2025 we will do everything possible not only to fight for gold, but also to become a reason for the pride of every Shakhtar fan.
Another important victory for the club and Ukraine was the 2024 Sports Emmy Award for the series Football Must Go On, which tells about Shakhtar's season during a full-scale war. The filmmakers did a great job, once again loudly telling the whole world about Ukraine, about the spirit and courage of the Ukrainian people, who are resisting the enemy, about the perseverance of Ukrainians.
New Year's holidays are a special time for each of us. This is a time when everyone – both adults and children – believes in a miracle. This is a time of great hopes, a time when you want to dream and make plans for the future. Each of us has our own goals, but all Ukrainians today are united by one great dream – about the long-awaited honest and just peace for Ukraine.
May this year bring exactly that into your life – the long-awaited peace. May prosperity and comfort always reign in your homes. May many bright and joyful moments lie ahead, including those from the play of our home team.
