Shakhtar newcomer Marlon Gomes told about his transfer to the club, acquaintance with other Brazilians, his strong qualities and recovery from injury
– Welcome to Shakhtar! You met the team for the first time the day before, so share your impressions.
– Glad to be here, together with the team. I was received in the best possible way and it was very nice. Now I need to recover from the injury as soon as possible. We still have the second match against Marseille and I will be nearby. I hope we will win.
– When you first found out that Shakhtar was interested in you, what were your thoughts? And what factors played a key role in your decision to join our team?
– I was very happy when I found out that such a huge club as Shakhtar was interested in me. I immediately told my family about it. And what convinced me to come here is the project. The presence of Brazilians in the team also helped me to make such a decision, but the main thing is the big project Shakhtar is building. I followed the stories of other Brazilians who were here including Wellington Nem, Alex Teixeira. I am happy to be here and start writing my history at Shakhtar.
– What else do you know about Shakhtar?
– I know enough about Shakhtar because many Brazilians have been here. I know that it is a huge club that loves Brazilians very much and treats them very well. It is a club whose country is going through a very difficult time, a club that has a very good infrastructure. Therefore, I believe that it was the best choice, to come here. And I'm happy to be here with my teammates.
– At one time, Shakhtar indeed had many famous Brazilian players. Maybe someone's play impressed you and someone was a hero for you?
– As I said in the answer to the previous question, I know many players: Wellington Nem, Alex Teixeira, Fred and many others. I was still young then, but I already followed Shakhtar because of the famous Brazilians who played here. And now my time has come, my dream has come true, to be one of Shakhtar's Brazilians. I hope I can fulfil my mission.
– Everyone was waiting for you, especially Eguinaldo. It is clear that you are friends. What did he tell you about the club, about the team?
– Eguinaldo and I have a very good relationship since Vasco da Gama, our former club. We have known each other for a long time, we played together back in football school, before we became professionals. I think he's a great player and it’s great to be with him again at the same club. I’m happy that he scored a goal for Shakhtar yesterday.
– Describe yourself as a player: what are your strengths and football qualities? And what number do you plan to use?
– In a few words, I am quite calm on the field and I am aware of what I can give to my team. I am a fighter, and I also work well with the ball. I think it is very important because I noticed that Mister demands more possession. As for my number, I have always had 25 since I switched to professional football and I have always had 8 in Brazil. But here they were not available, so I think that 30 is also a great number because famous footballers used it. I hope that everything will turn out well for me with it.
– We know that you were injured while playing for Brazil U23. How do you feel now and what are the prognosis for recovery?
– I was very upset when I found out about the injury. During my vacation, I took care of myself because I knew that I would be needed in the Brazil national team: I approached the matches in excellent form, I didn't have any muscle problems, but unfortunately I suffered a bone injury. I was upset, but my family helped me calm down. I feel well, every day I recover more and more, I continue the procedures. Now I have joined Shakhtar to return as soon as possible and help the team on the field.
– Shakhtar fans were waiting for your arrival. What would you like to tell them?
– I am also looking forward to the opportunity to join the team and help. I also felt it yesterday when I watched the game from the stands. The fans can expect dedication from me on the pitch. I will always do my best for Shakhtar and I hope that our cooperation will last for many years.
