On February 8, Shakhtar played the test match against the champions of Turkmenistan Arkadag

Head coach of the Miners Marino Pusic picked the following line-up for the first friendly: Rudko was between the sticks, Rakitskyi and Lemkin appeared at centre-back, Latsabidze (right) and Miroshi (left) played as fullbacks, Nazaryna, Gocholeishvili and Tsukanov acted in the midfield, with Shved and Pedrinho playing as wingers and Eguinaldo getting the centre-forward role.

The Pitmen’s play advantage and goals by Eguinaldo and Gocholeishvili from the spot

The Orange-and-Blacks dominated possession from the first minutes of the meeting and immediately began to create threatening chances. Shots by Shved and Tsukanov were denied by the opponents’ goalkeeper, but Miroshi managed to finish it off, however the referee flagged an offside. Tsukanov could have scored, but he hit the crossbar with bounce from the Turkmen player. Shved had two good opportunities: the goalkeeper made a save once against after his long-ranger and the ball was denied by the defender in another episode. The Miners went forward continuously and opened the score in the 25th minute: Eguinaldo earned a penalty and converted it through a shot into the lower right corner, making it 1-0. After the goal, Marino Pusic’s men calmed down a bit, and Arkadag footballers, who almost did not leave their part of the field during 30 minutes of the game, equalized in the very first attack: in the 32nd minute, Annagulyyev pushed the ball into goal after a cross from a corner-kick. However, already in the 37th minute, Shakhtar took the lead again: this time Tsukanov earned a penalty and Giorgi Gocholeishvili converted it, sending the ball and the goalkeeper wrong way – 2-1.

Eguinaldo’s brace and spectacular goal from Pedrinho

After the break, the Pitmen made a substitution: Denys Tvardovskyi appeared to keep the goal. In addition, Latsabidze moved to centre-back, Lemkin switched to the right wing, Eguinaldo took the left winger position, Pedrinho acted in the left attacking position this time, with Shved playing centre-forward. At the beginning of the second half, Pedrinho had two great opportunities: first, his close-range shot was blocked by the opponent's defender and goalkeeper, and a few minutes later, the Brazilian intercepted the ball in the opposing box and performed a powerful volley, but did not hit the target. In the middle of the half, Toirov appeared on the field and immediately took part in the goal movement: after receiving the ball on the right flank, Khusrav passed it to the centre to Tsukanov, who fed Miroshi, the Tanzanian found Eguinaldo in the penalty area, with the Brazilian sending the ball past the defender and beating Arkadag goalkeeper – 3-1. Shved could have increased the score, but his free kick was parried by the goalkeeper. Toirov also had a chance to score, shooting from the edge of the box near the post. Pedrinho managed to put a period in the match in stoppage time: the Brazilian caught the ball after it was cleared off the penalty area, chipped it over one opponent, tricked another one and struck from 20 meters into the left corner.

4-1 – Shakhtar claimed a confident win over Arkadag (Turkmenistan) in the first friendly of Thursday.

Marino Pusic’s side are going to play another practice match today, facing Lechia (Poland). The game kicks off at 16:30 Kyiv time and will be streamed live on Shakhtar’s YouTube channel and the FC Shakhtar app (App Store and Google Play).
