On February 8, Shakhtar played a test match against Polish Lechia

Head coach of the Orange-and-Blacks Marino Pusic expectedly changed the line-up in the second friendly match compared to the first game of the day against Arkadag: Riznyk played in the goal, Konoplia, Bondar (with the captain’s armband), Matviienko and Azarov acted in the defence, Kryskiv, Bondarenko and Sudakov appeared in the centre of the field, Zubkov and Kevin acted as wingers, Sikan had a central forward position.

Shakhtar were in control, but without goals before the break

From the beginning of the match, the teams played toe-to-toe, but gradually the Miners seized the initiative and started to intensify the situation near the opponent’s goal. The first dangerous shot was Sikan’s attempt from 12 metres, which Sarnavskyi saved. Azarov and Konoplia made several promising passes to the penalty area from the wings, but without finishing by their teammates. In the middle of the half, there was an exchange of moments after long-range shots: Neugebauer narrowly missed the right top corner, and Kryskiv shot close to the post in a quick attack. Sikan had another chance when he reached the ball after Azarov’s cross, but he missed the target. Before the break, the forward of the Orange-and-Blacks even managed to head the ball home after a cross to the goalmouth, but the referee did not count the goal, noticing a violation of the rules by Danylo.

Gradual pressure from Shakhtar and exchange of goals

The second half started with the moment of the Miners: Kryskiv dribbled the ball to the penalty area and kicked it into the near corner, but his shot was weak and it went into the hands of the goalkeeper. In response, the Poles almost scored a strange goal: Neugebauer tried to throw the ball behind Riznyk from the centre circle, but it landed on the net from above. Marino Pusic’s team continued to play their combinations in the opponent’s half of the field and finally succeeded. In the 65th minute, Sudakov dispossessed the opponent of the ball, Kryskiv passed to Oleksandr Zubkov on the right wing, the latter then entered the penalty area and aimed under the far post with a right-footed shot – 1-0. The opponent immediately started playing more actively, and if Zjawinski’s shot from a tight angle hit Riznyk, in the 78th minute, after a cross from the left wing, no one prevented Kacper Sezonienko from putting the ball into the net from one metre. Both teams did not stop trying to win in the remaining time, but the score did not change. 1-1 – Shakhtar tied with Lechia in their final friendly at the training camp in Turkey.

The team will now hold a weekly training cycle before the season resumption. As a reminder, on February 15, Shakhtar will host French Marseille in the UEFA Europa League knockout stage first leg. The game will take place in Hamburg at the Volksparkstadion. Tickets are on general sale.
