The first players who joined Shakhtar football team for amputees became known

On Friday, February 9, the players of Shakhtar team for amputees visited the Academy base in Shchaslyve. During the visit, they received jerseys with their names and familiarized themselves with the infrastructure of the club.

The first players of Shakhtar team for amputee soldiers:
It is important for me to raise awareness and to destroy the myth that an amputee is a miserable person who is doomed to a limited life. Guys who came back from the war with amputations do not consider themselves as such
Andrii Kuzmenko, a serviceman of the Hetman Bohdan Khmelnytskyi Separate Presidential Brigade (he started playing and took an interest in football during rehabilitation in Lviv):

– The last time I played football was 20 years ago, but I became interested in this sport during rehabilitation. It is important for me to raise awareness and to destroy the myth that an amputee is a miserable person who is doomed to a limited life. Guys who came back from the war with amputations do not consider themselves as such. It is important that society understands this.
Shakhtar are my favourite team. Many soldiers withdraw into themselves after being wounded, but they feel that they have not been forgotten thanks to such projects
Artem Piskunov, using the call sign Liutyi, a soldier of the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade, a commander of the assault squad (he was wounded in the Bakhmut-bound direction in November 2023; he was born in Mariupol and has been a Shakhtar fan since childhood):

– I have only genuine emotions! I am grateful that Shakhtar cares and does not forget about the soldiers who need it. Shakhtar are my favourite team. Many soldiers withdraw into themselves after being wounded, but they feel that they have not been forgotten thanks to such projects.

Azov’s Angels Patronage Service is actively involved in the search for team players.

Mariia Kupchynska, Azov’s Angels Patronage Service representative:

– Rehabilitation in this format is appropriate, because the guys will have healthy competition, despite their amputations. An active lifestyle will help soldiers adapt to society more easily and avoid inferiority feeling.
