Taras Stepanenko extended his contract with Shakhtar for one year

The leader of the Miners continued cooperation with the club
Shakhtar midfielder and captain Taras Stepanenko signed a new contract. The legend will stay in the team until the end of the 2024/25 season.
We remind that Taras Stepanenko moved to Shakhtar in May 2010 from Metalurh Zaporizhzhia and made his debut for the Miners on July 4 of the same year in the victorious match for the Ukrainian Super Cup against Tavriia. Currently, the 34-year-old midfielder has 411 appearances in the orange and black shirt, 29 scored goals and 25 assists. Taras led the Miners with the captain’s armband in 96 games.
The current season was Stepanenko's 14th season at Shakhtar. Together with the club he won 23 trophies: 9 titles of the Champions of Ukraine (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2023), 7 Ukrainian Cups (2011, 2012, 2013, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019) and 7 Ukrainian Super Cups (2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2021).
Taras Stepanenko is among the top 5 players in the history of Shakhtar who conquered the milestone of 400 apps. Such legends as Darijo Srna (536 games), Mykhailo Sokolovskyi (485), Andrii Piatov (482) and Serhii Yashchenko (444) are alongside the current captain in this list.
