The newcomer of the Miners helped the national team claim an important victory
Shakhtar midfielder Marlon Gomes took part in the match of the 3rd round of the Pre-Olympic Tournament group stage against Ecuador U23 as a member of Brazil U23. Just like in two previous games, Marlon Gomes came on from the opening minutes and played without substitution.
The first half passed in a close competition without particularly sharp moments, and after the break, the Ecuadorians opened the scoring thanks to a long-range shot and a deflection. However, in the 65th minute, the Brazilians fought back, and the goal was scored by the newcomer of the Miners: Endrick made a cross from the left side of the penalty area, and Marlon Gomes sent the ball into the net from a few meters – it is the first goal by the midfielder for the Olympic team. In the 75th minute, Gabriel Pirani brought a 2-1 victory to the Selecao.
After three matches, Brazil U23 have 9 points and lead the group, securing a place in the next qualifying round. In the last round, the Brazilians will face Venezuela U23, the line-up of which includes another Shakhtar player Kevin Kelsy (he scored a goal in the match of the second round against Ecuador). If the Venezuelans win, they will also reach the final stage of the 2024 Olympic Games qualification.
