On July 26, Shakhtar played a test match against Dinamo Zagreb
Head coach of the Pitmen Marino Pusic chose the following line-up for the penultimate friendly game of the pre-season: Tvardovskyi played in the goal, Vinicius Tobias, Ghram, Franjic and Pedro Henrique formed the defensive line, Nazaryna, Pedrinho and Hlushchenko (with the captain’s armband) acted in the middle of the field, Shved and Newertton were the wingers, Eguinaldo had a central forward position.
The game with moments, but without goals
The teams started the game actively and had opportunities to open the scoring quickly already in the opening minutes. First, Pedro Henrique made a cross from the left wing to the far post, where Shved turned his body and shot on the volley – the goalkeeper saved it not without difficulty. Zagreb team responded with their chance, and soon Tvardovskyi had to save the team, when he dealt with the opponent’s shot from the centre of the penalty area. Then, the Miners played as leaders and had several dangerous opportunities: a shot by Vinicius Tobias went over the crossbar, and Eguinaldo headed the ball after Newertton’s pass – near the crossbar. Tvardovskyi saved the team again near the opposite goal, turning the long-range shot for a corner.
Three posts of the Miners, the only goal by the Croatians
During the break, the coaching staff of Shakhtar made two substitutions, fielding Faryna and Gocholeishvili. The second half started with the exchange of sharp moments again. Newertton ran out one on one with the goalkeeper, but he did not have time to kick the ball past Zagorac. And the Croatians created their goal-scoring chance, when Vrbancic shot from the right wing of the penalty area, but Alaa Ghram did not allow the ball to fly into the net, stopping it on the line. In the 65th minute, Newertton had a great chance to score – his shot from the semi-circle hit the right post of the gate of Dinamo Zagreb. And in two minutes, the host team took the lead: in a quick attack, Bakovic received the ball almost in the centre of the penalty area and made a well-placed shot into the near corner. Immediately after that, Shved could have equalised the score, but he did not manage to push the ball into the goal of the Croatians after several attempts. At the same time, Latsabidze appeared on the field as part of the Miners, and the team continued to move forward with a desire to fight back and were close to that. Vinicius Tobias dribbled past two opponents in the penalty area and hit the post from a tight angle, but the ball flew to the Brazilian, who beat the opponent with a feint and tried to curve the ball into the far corner – the post saved the Croatians again. Nazaryna immediately kicked the ball a few centimetres above the top corner from a promising free kick. 0-1 – Shakhtar lost to Dinamo Zagreb in the first test match.
Tomorrow, July 27, the teams will meet in the second friendly game. The match between the champions of Ukraine and Croatia will also take place in Zagreb at the Maksimir stadium and will kick off at 20:00 Kyiv time.
