On July 27, Shakhtar played a second test match against Dinamo Zagreb

The champions of Ukraine and Croatia met in the friendly game the day before, and it is clear that both head coaches have completely changed the line-ups of their teams. Today, head coach of the Miners Marino Pusic chose the following starting line-up: Riznyk played in the goal, Konoplia and Azarov appeared on the defensive wings, Matviienko and Bondar played in the centre of defence, Stepanenko, Bondarenko and Sudakov acted in the middle of the field, Kevin and Zubkov were the wingers, Traore had a central forward position.

Moments on both sides and the benefit of the goalkeepers

The teams started at a slow pace, searching for the rhythm of the game and adapting to the opponent, therefore, in the beginning, there was almost no intensity near both goals. The Orange-and-Blacks gradually seized the initiative and created the first serious moments after the 20th minute. First, Bondarenko found Traore in the centre of the penalty area, the Burkinabe beat the opponent and made a powerful shot, but hit the goalkeeper. And soon Sudakov had a similar opportunity, when he shot from ten metres – the goalkeeper pulled the ball from the right corner. This burst of activity significantly livened up the game, the opponents started exchanging dangerous attacks. The Croatians could have scored immediately, but Riznyk played excellently: he saved Hoxha’s shot and reacted to Petkovic’s follow-up closely. Sudakov took over the game during the counterattack and shot into the left bottom corner from the penalty area line – Nevistic saved again. Zubkov had two chances, when at first he failed to head the cross home to the right corner of the goalmouth, and then kicked the ball well above the target almost from the same position. Finally, the leader of Zagreb team, Petkovic, earned a dangerous spot-kick in the semi-circle and shot into the top corner, but Riznyk controlled everything and turned it for a corner.

A spectacular half with four goals

During the break, there was one change in the line-up of the Pitmen: Pedrinho replaced Stepanenko. The Miners immediately conducted a dangerous attack, which ended in Bondarenko’s fall in the penalty area after contact with the opponent, but the referee did not react. But it did not stop the Ukrainian midfielder, and he opened the scoring in the 54th minute: a beautiful combination of the team ended with Konoplia’s cross to the penalty area line, and Artem Bondarenko put the ball into the far top corner with an excellent left-footed shot – 0-1. And in five minutes, the Orange-and-Blacks scored for the second time and did it extremely impressively as well: Sudakov broke through the entire defence of the Croatians with an incredible pass from his own half and put Kevin in one on one, the Brazilian kicked the ball over the goalkeeper with a feint and hit the unguarded net with a header – 0-2. However, the host team scored one goal pretty quickly: the ball hit Bondarenko’s arm in the penalty area, and Bruno Petkovic reduced the gap with a penalty goal. The game slowed down for some time, but Dinamo Zagreb did not stop trying to equalise the score and finally did it in the 83rd minute: Petkovic earned another spot-kick and confidently converted it again. The Blues could have also made a full-fledged comeback, but the post saved the Ukrainians a minute before the end of the meeting after Kacavenda’s shot. 2-2 – Shakhtar ended the test match against Dinamo Zagreb with a draw.

It was the final friendly game of Marino Pusic’s team at this year’s summer training camp. Next week, the Miners will continue preparation for the first official match of the new season in Ukraine.
