Shakhtar defender Vinicius Tobias about his return to the club, adaptation in the team and ambitions
– Tobias, welcome back to Shakhtar! You returned to the team after two years. Tell us, what do you feel?
– I am happy to return to Shakhtar now. Two years of experience at Real Madrid, but actually I am very happy to be back, and I will try to bring the best result to the team.
– Why did you decide to return to Shakhtar and what was the key factor in making this decision?
– The most important thing for me is to play, and it is does not matter where. Shakhtar allows me to play, and I can learn a lot of different and interesting things here.
– If we compare Tobias who joined Shakhtar two and a half years ago and Tobias now, what changes do you see in yourself?
– Of course, when I joined two years ago, I was a different person. I managed to learn a lot at Shakhtar during that period. Mister gave me a lot then, and I am still learning now. The period at Real was also important to grow and come back to Shakhtar as a bigger professional.
– Did you watch Shakhtar’s matches while you were at Real? What can you say about the current team?
– Although I was at Real, I tried to follow the games. It was a bit difficult to watch the matches, but I was constantly in touch with my friends at Shakhtar so that they told me about the developments in the team.
– Who were you in touch with and how is your adaptation in the team going?
– With everyone at Shakhtar, especially with the people who I managed to meet at the time of my first arrival. Of course, it was easier to just talk to Brazilians due to a common origin. Anyway, I was very happy to stay in touch, because all guys are great. There are plenty of Brazilians and Ukrainians here, this is an international team, where you can learn a lot. I am very happy to be a Brazilian surrounded by Ukrainians and learn many things every day.
– How can you help with the current Shakhtar football model?
– I can help in each case in different ways, more in attack. But Shakhtar has many quality performers, who are able to help, just like me, so it is important to be a team and show yourself every time in view of the team play.
– When a full-scale war started, you and other Brazilians were in Ukraine with Ukrainians. Were you not afraid to return to the Ukrainian team in a country where a full-scale war is going on?
– When I came to Shakhtar, it was quite a difficult moment. My birthday was coming up, and just then all these events began. I see that the situation has changed to some extent within two years. The most important thing is that we can play football relatively calmly. It is important that I can play and enjoy my favourite activity every day.
– Under what number do you plan to play?
– My favourite number is 10, but if it is taken, I am ready to choose any number. The main thing is to be useful to the team.
– Do you maybe have any special requests regarding the number?
– Like I said, my favourite number is 10, I played under this number as a child, but I emphasise again that it is not that important.
– What are your goals at Shakhtar and what are your expectations for the season?
– The main thing is for us to have a good season, reaching new heights together. Personally, I want to evolve as a professional and achieve personal performance indicators, but the team result comes first. The most important thing is to have fun together with the whole team.
