Shakhtar U14 won gold medals of the Ukrainian Youth Football League championship

The path to the final

The team coached by Dmytro Yefymov finished the DUFLU group stage in the 1st spot of the table with 40 points. The Miners acted reliably in defence throughout the season without defeats and demonstrated high performance (goal difference: 88–5). The top goalscorer is Illia Zaruba (18 goals in 18 games).

The Pitmen were stronger than Zmina-Obolon U14 (5-0), OFKIP-Polissia U14 (4-0 and 0-0) and Munkach U14 (3-1 and 5-1) in the play-off matches, which allowed the team to play in the final part of the competition.

Shakhtar Donetsk U14 1-0 Dynamo Kyiv U14


The Orange-and-Blacks started the final part of the competition with the game against Dynamo at the Bohdan Markevych stadium. The Miners had a territorial advantage from the first minutes and combined near the opponent’s penalty area, and in the 16th minute, they managed to score a goal that decided the fate of the match: after one-touch play with Zaruba, Savchenko ran into the goalmouth, from where he made a cross to Abramov for finishing. Then, the Orange-and-Blacks continued to control the game and brought it to a logical conclusion.

Shakhtar Donetsk U14 3-0 UFC Kryvbas Dnipro U14

On the second matchday, the Miners faced UFC Kryvbas U14 at the Bohdan Markevych stadium. The Donetsk team managed to take the lead in the beginning of the game, when Melchenko hit the target, taking advantage of the opponent’s turnover. The Miners acted as leaders throughout the match and doubled the advantage in the 50th minute, after Melchenko ran into the penalty area and made a cross to Zaruba for finishing, the latter shot past the goalkeeper. Hotra’s gorgeous goal under the crossbar from the penalty area capped the scoring in the 66th minute.

In the final match of the season, the Miners faced AF Rukh U14 at TC Rukh. Shakhtar U14 started the game actively and took the lead in the 3rd minute thanks to Zaruba’s goal. The Orange-and-Blacks were mostly in the opponent’s half of the field and, in the 36th minute, they doubled the advantage thanks to the efforts of Savchenko, and at the end of the first half, Zaruba netted a brace. In the second half, the pattern of play did not change, and the Miners converted the dangerous attacks into goals by Hotra and Savchenko, and Rukh responded with a goal by Dziurynets at the end of the match.

Individual awards

During the awarding ceremony, Dmytro Melchenko and Rostyslav Avdieienko received the individual prizes. The successful defensive play caught the attention of experts, and Rostyslav was recognised as the best defender of the tournament, and Dmytro Melchenko became the best player of the final part of the DUFLU.
