Shakhtar U13 won gold medals in the international tournament in Lithuania

Shakhtar footballers born in 2011 took part in the Ateitis CUP international tournament held in Vilnius, Lithuania.

According to the regulations, 12 teams were divided into 2 subgroups of 6 each, where the opponents faced each other. They played in 2 halves of 25 minutes each. The Miners demonstrated a confident result in the group stage, defeating Baltic Football Academy (2-1), Minaj (6-0), RFC Academy (1-0), Torpedo Kutaisi (2-0) and Laskaris (9-0).

Shakhtar U13 topped the group in terms of points gained and confidently defeated English Norwich (4-0) in the match for the 1st spot. Shakhtar U13 players under the guidance of Volodymyr Samborskyi showed the best performance (24 goals in 6 matches), a reliable play in defence (1 conceded goal) and won the Ateitis CUP gold medals.

Oleksandr Varyvoda (the best goalkeeper) and Volodymyr Stokolos (the best scorer) received individual awards among the Miners.

Volodymyr Samborskyi, FC Shakhtar Academy coach:

– This tournament means a lot for the boys. Emotions are very positive because the team showed an excellent play and got a good result. The first match was especially difficult seeing that the footballers appeared on the field almost immediately after a long journey. However, the team stepped it up and showed mettle with each subsequent match. Judging by the final result, it may seem that the victory in the tournament was easy, but in fact it was not as the opponents showed decent football. Of course, there is a lot to work on, but I am sure that the team are capable of playing even harder and a good generation of footballers is growing in the Academy.
