Shakhtar U19 and Ukraine 17 defender Mykyta Sheleketa shared his impressions of the 2024 European U17 Championship elite round matches
– Mykyta, Ukraine U17 will play in the Euro final round for the first time in seven years. What do you feel?
– The feeling cannot be expressed in words. We are happy that we managed to qualify for the final part of the European U17 Championship and achieved the goal set for the team. Every player of the youth team made every effort on the field to get the necessary result and I am very grateful to the team.
– The youth team won three matches and did not concede a single goal. Tell me, what was the atmosphere like in the team?
– The atmosphere is wonderful. We have become much friendlier in everyday life and on the field over the year. Thanks to the national team, we have united, working together for a goal.
– You appeared in all qualifiers in the starting line-up. What does it mean and do you feel the support of the head coach?
– It is clear that it is extremely important for every footballer when the coach trusts you and gives you the opportunity to play in important matches without being subbed out. For me, it is a great responsibility and a significant additional pressure, both emotionally and physically. I am grateful for this trust and support.
– The draw for the final part of the 2024 European U17 Championship will take place in April. Tell us what your team's ambitions are and which national team do you want to face the most?
– We have only one goal – to advance as far as possible in the European Championship. I would like to play a rematch against Germany to which we lost in the match for the first spot in the group of the Euro 2024 qualification round.
– Did Shakhtar teammates congratulate you?
– Yes, many friends from the team and the coach congratulated me on qualifying for Euro 2024. Someone texted me and someone called. It's very nice!
