On March 15, Shakhtar team for amputee soldiers conducted an hour and a half morning session in an indoor arena in Shchaslyve. The outfield players started the session with dribbling exercises while the goalkeepers practised playing on the line. Then, head coach of Shakhtar team for amputee soldiers Bohdan Bilko offered the players the moving exercises with passing accuracy practice and the final shot. Later, Shakhtar youth team players joined the training process, taking part in a small-sided game in a limited area ofthe field. In general, the session had a great atmosphere and ended with a group photo and presenting of gifts from the UEFA Youth League’s social project.
I am sure that these projects are very important for the social adaptation of amputee soldiers, so that they feel useful, and our society should support them in this endeavour, because they have every chance for that
Oleksandr Aleksieiev, FC Shakhtar Academy Director:

– This is a very important moment for us. The event was organised jointly by Shakhtar U19 and UEFA within the Youth League’s social project initiative. Every year we organise such joint events, and this year we decided to hold one with the newly created Shakhtar team for amputee soldiers. In this way, we give an additional incentive and support the soldiers who play football. The players of the Academy and the coaching staff are very grateful for what they did defending our country from the enemy. I am sure that these projects are very important for the social adaptation of amputee soldiers, so that they feel useful, and our society should support them in this endeavour, because they have every chance for that.
We joined the training session of Shakhtar team for amputee soldiers, performed a warm-up with them and played football – there are only positive impressions
Oleh Pushkarov, player of Shakhtar U19:

– We joined the training session of Shakhtar team for amputee soldiers, performed a warm-up with them and played football – there are only positive impressions. Thanks to the military, we have the opportunity to play football every day. I think that this is a very important event that allows guys to return to an active lifestyle, because before being wounded, I am sure, they were in great physical shape. Such projects contribute to the continuation of sports life.
Such projects have a very positive effect, because the guys communicate with each other and thereby distract themselves mentally, so it is necessary to support these initiatives
Oleksandr Zhalinskyi (call sign Kum), soldier of the Special Purpose Brigade Azov:

– This is my first training session, and it went great! The coaches are constantly giving tips and explaining. I used to play football and was an outfield player, but today I tried playing in the goal for the first time. Many guys have a very hard time after amputation. I did not want my loved ones to see me in a grave condition in the first two weeks after being wounded. Such projects have a very positive effect, because the guys communicate with each other and thereby distract themselves mentally, so it is necessary to support these initiatives.

The UEFA Youth League’s social project is aimed at involving young footballers in important social events. This initiative works with the teams participating in the UEFA Youth League, encouraging the clubs to take an active part in local social solidarity projects.
