Shakhtar hosted Kryvbas in the central game of the 19th round of the UPL in Lviv

Head coach of the Miners Marino Pusic made several changes in the starting line-up compared to the previous game: Yaroslav Rakitskyi replaced suspended Matviienko in defence, Newertton acted on the left attacking wing, and Danylo Sikan returned to the central forward position.

As a reminder, the Orange-and-Blacks play the home matches of the spring part of the season with a limited number of spectators – 500 fans attended today’s game at Arena Lviv. A symbolic first kick was performed by defender of Ukraine Ivan Horulko, a soldier of the 12th Special Purpose Brigade Azov of the National Guard of Ukraine, who defended the country from the first days of the war and was wounded near Kreminna. Currently he is a player of Shakhtar team for amputee soldiers.

Strong start with goals by Konoplia and Kryskiv

From the first minutes, Shakhtar took control of the ball and quickly took the lead. In the 9th minute, after the corner kick, Kryskiv made a cross to the penalty area, the goalkeeper saved Bondarenko’s header in front of him, and Yukhym Konoplia successfully pursued rebounds – 1-0. The host team continued to control the game and could have doubled their advantage when Bondar tried to turn Zubkov’s cross home but missed the target. Instead, Kryvbas players took advantage of possibly their first opportunity and equalised the score in the 20th minute: Dibango shot from the left wing, and Prince made a one-touch shot into the near corner. However, the Miners took the lead again 2 minutes later: Dmytro Kryskiv played a free kick with a pass to Bondarenko and opened up in the penalty area, and after receiving a pass in return, he shot exactly into the left top corner – 2-1. The visiting team became a bit more active at the end of the half: Ilic narrowly missed the crossbar from the penalty area, and Stetskov almost hit the other top corner with a long-range shot.

Goals in the majority, undeniable advantage and Tsukanov’s debut

The start of the second half of the match was no less stormy. Already in the first minute, the Orange-and-Blacks earned a spot-kick, from which Zubkov curved the ball into the crossbar following a complex trajectory. In response, Sosah made a dangerous shot from the semi-circle in front of the penalty area – just above the target. And in the 57th minute, Kryvbas remained in the minority: Ilic jumped at Kryskiv’s legs from behind, and the referee gave the Croatian a straight red card after reviewing VAR. After that, Shakhtar had almost undivided control of a game and created many goal-scoring chances. Sikan beat the goalkeeper after Rakitskyi’s cross, but the ball missed the target, and Bondarenko shot over the crossbar after Nazaryna’s pass. The team managed to extend their lead in the 68th minute: Zubkov passed the ball from the right wing to the penalty area line, and Artem Bondarenko beautifully put the ball into the far corner – 3-1. The host team did not stop, and then the goalkeeper saved Kryvyi Rih team after shots by Pedrinho and Rakitskyi, and Traore narrowly missed Zubkov’s sharp cross. But this pressure gave a result, and in the 82nd minute Dmytro Kryskiv regained the ball in the centre of the field, ran to the penalty area and netted a brace with a shot into the far corner – 4-1. However, the visiting team immediately scored one goal – Stetskov turned the cross from the right wing right home to the far post. Marino Pusic made a triple substitution in the last minute: 18-year-old Viktor Tsukanov made his official debut for the first team of the Miners. The young midfielder also had chances to score: after his first shot, the ball deflected to a corner, he shot over the target during the second attempt. And Lassina Traore capped the scoring in the added time, when he successfully put his foot after Bondarenko’s shot and sent the ball into the net.

5-2 – Shakhtar claimed a spectacular and confident victory over Kryvbas.

Marino Pusic’s team will play their next match next Friday. Shakhtar will host Kolos at Arena Lviv on March 8 at 18:00.
