Shakhtar hosted Kolos in Lviv in the match of the 20th round of the UPL

Head coach of the Orange-and-Blacks Marino Pusic made some adjustments in the starting line-up compared to the previous game: Mykola Matviienko returned to the centre of defence, Yehor Nazaryna came on in the middle of the field from the first minutes, and Dmytro Kryskiv acted on the left in the attack.

A symbolic first kick was performed by Halyna Fedyshyn, a combat medic of the 36th Marine Brigade, who took part in the defence of Mariupol, the Illich and Azovstal Iron and Steel Works, during the exit from which she was taken prisoner and spent almost 2 years in captivity. At the beginning of 2024, Halyna was rescued, and she returned to her native land.

Opponent’s minimal advantage before the break

The first moments in the match were created by Shakhtar: Konoplia hit the opponent from a good position, and then arranged a moment for Sudakov, who adjusted the ball with his chest in the centre of the penalty area and shot – close to the post. However, Kovalivka team managed to open the scoring in the counterattack: in the 8th minute, Ilin entered the penalty area and beat Riznyk with a shot into the near corner. The Orange-and-Blacks immediately seized the initiative and had several opportunities to equalise the score. Sikan shot on the volley after Nazaryna’s pass – the goalkeeper of the visiting team saved his shot. Fesiun also saved his team after Sudakov’s long-range shot, and Kryskiv shot above the target from the semi-circle. At the end of the half, the teams exchanged moments: Riznyk saved a dangerous shot by Ilin, and Pedrinho rushed through the wing and shot into the target, but the goalkeeper was in the way again.

Kevin’s first goals, Traore scored again

During the break, Marino Pusic made substitutions: Kevin and Lassina Traore replaced Pedrinho and Nazaryna on the field, and they became the creators of the comeback. Already in the 49th minute, Kevin played with Traore on the left wing, hit the far corner and equalised the score. 1-1 – the debut goal of the Brazilian newcomer for Shakhtar. Then, the opponents created goal-scoring opportunities again: Bondar blocked Paulauskas’ shot, and Salabai missed the target when finishing off; instead, Zubkov did not manage to beat Fesiun in close duel after Sudakov’s cross. But in the 65th minute, the Miners still took the lead: Zubkov made a cross from the penalty area, the ball flew to Traore, who headed it into the net without any obstacles – 2-1. After that, the game continued toe-to-toe, and the Orange-and-Blacks looked sharper: Bondarenko launched the attack and finished it himself with a shot from outside the penalty area (over the crossbar), Zubkov hit dangerously from the semi-circle (save by the goalkeeper). And in the 88th minute, a third goal was scored: Sudakov passed to Kevin on the left edge of the penalty area, and the Brazilian hit the far corner with an excellent shot – 3-1. In the time added by the referee, Kovalivka team managed to score another goal: at first Riznyk saved the team, turning Chornomorets’ shot for a corner, but after a corner and rebounds, Traore deflected the ball into his own goal. However, the Miners did not allow the opponent to do more.

3-2 – Shakhtar claimed a victory against Kolos, Kevin netted his first brace in the UPL.

Marino Pusic’s team will play their next match on March 12 against Minaj Uzhhorod. The game will be held at Arena Lviv and will kick off at 18:00. Tickets will go on sale on March 9.
