Shakhtar women’s team are preparing for the final clash of the season with Kryvbas

On Wednesday, May 22, Shakhtar women's team practiced at the Academy facility in Shchaslyve.

The one and a half hour session began with a 15-minute warm-up. Next, the field players switched to passing exercises and exercises focused on the development of technical skills, while the goalkeepers under the leadership of Dmytro Shutkov worked on a separate programme improving the speed of reaction to the ball and the play in goal. The coaching staff offered the players a series of exercises aimed at developing the team's tactical interaction in the final phase of the attack.

We remind that the final match of the Vyshcha League second stage between Kryvbas and Shakhtar will take place in Kryvyi Rih at the Sparta stadium on Saturday, May 25. It kicks off at 12:00.

Oleksandra Yanieva, midfielder:

– This week there was a lot of athletic and speed work. Today we worked on orchestrating the final attacking phase four-on-three. The team are seriously preparing for the next opponents.

– Share your expectations for the final match of the season vs Kryvbas.
– Kryvbas compete for bronze awards of the championship. For us, they are important rivals and we lost to them with a difference of one goal at home, so we aim to get a positive result in Kryvyi Rih. In the second part of the season, there were changes in their line-up, many young, fast and technical players joined the team, so we need to act reliably in defence and orchestrate our attacks well.

– Oleksandra, you started playing in the left inside position from the beginning of the second part of the season. How did you manage to adapt to the new role?
– It was not difficult to adapt because I am comfortable in every position of the midfield line. The main difference is that you can improvise more often in the left inside position, break into the penalty area and make more deep passes than when you play in the central part of the field. In general, it is more power football in the centre than on the wing. I'm still getting used to the left inside position, but I feel comfortable.
