Recalling the latest game of the Miners at their home stadium in Donetsk

On May 2, 2014, Shakhtar and Illichivets met at the Donbas Arena in the match of the 28th round of the UPL. The scoring was opened in the 26th minute, when defender of Mariupol team Ishchenko deflected the ball into his own net after Ilsinho’s cross. The visiting team equalised the score at the start of the second half – Totovytskyi headed the ball accurately. However, in a few minutes, Luiz Adriano gave the Orange-and-Blacks a lead again, beating the defender and the goalkeeper of the opponent in the penalty area. Douglas Costa finalised the score with a long-range shot – 3-1. It was the last goal of Shakhtar at the Donbas Arena.

– The Donbas Arena is one of the best stadiums in Europe and the home of Shakhtar. We experienced all the most precious moments in Donetsk, together with our fans, at this stadium. The full stands of the Donbas Arena always created incredible atmosphere of football celebration, inspired our team for a beautiful game and great victories. After the outbreak of the war in Donbas, we held our home matches at different stadiums in Ukraine and Europe, and we are very grateful to these cities for the warm welcome, but nothing can replace Donetsk and Donbas Arena for us. Therefore, Shakhtar is living with a dream of returning home one day, to its city, free Ukrainian Donetsk, to its home stadium, and making its fans happy again with spectacular game and victories at the Donbas Arena.
